Innovation is my favorite game. I bought the deluxe pack since it had all the expansions, but I still haven't got the chance to play it.

I kid you not, played that about 2 weeks ago

I was stuck with a 5 hour layover in an airport, and I found a guy to play it with, and he loved it too.

No, nothing like that. I know that you drew cards and rolled dice but I could never finish the game cause when I got the game I got it a yard sale and the game didn't have all of the pieces needed to finish the game.

I like board games and card games, but I don't really consider them a hobby I'm into. I'll probably play if someone wants to though.

I'm really into tabletop rpgs though.

Settlers of Catan is good, but I think I'd like it more as a computer game. I don't have good people to play a proper competitive game with.

Solid pair of games! I'm pretty sure I've seen both of these on Tabletop Simulator. I haven't tried them on there though.

Yup. Just did a board game night recently, heavy focus on Dominion (I have all of them), Resistance (ugh), and Codenames. My friend wants a rematch in Puerto Rico (which he has lost to me 7 times in a row), and Agricula, which none of us have touched in some time.

I like playing them from time to time. Some ones I've enjoyed over the years:
Dungeon!
Sorry
Parcheesi
Aggravation
Bonkers
Payday
Go to the Head of the Class
Classic Concentration -- I remember the one my aunt had had all the puzzles on a paper scroll, so you just blocked out the board and rolled it to the next puzzle. Had to be from the early-'80s or earlier.
The Game of Life
Clue
Risk
Axis and Allies
Xanth

I is probably the most complex board gamr out there. 361 possible moves on the first turn alone. Yea, there is maybe a dozen or so good opening moves, the game needs to read far further then chess and such

My favorite is Battlestar Galactica. I don't need any expansions to have great time playing that game.

Really? When I played it we had a bad time.

First hour nobody was a cylon, so everything went smoothly and we spent an hour just sort of putting along and we all got bored. I wanted to call outside assistance to confirm there was no cylon at the time, but then it ruins the whole point of it.
Second hour, when the flip happened, there was a fun game of "can we survive this" for a few rounds, but then the first cylon trashed a mission (fair enough), and we all sent him away. Then we realized that we found the second cylon (the player even admitted so), but we didn't want to throw him away because he could do more damage outside of the ship than inside so we brought a cylon on missions with us because we were so close anyway.

At the end we all agreed it was kinda dumb how it turned out, and there are weird rules about what you can or can't say or talk about. It just sort of felt like a traitor game with all of the social aspects replaced with mechanics that weren't all that fun.

It was probably just the single game that I played that wasn't good, but it's the only game that I played, and it really soured me on the whole thing.

A large part of the game is based on randomness yes, but, yes, first games usually go underwhelmingly well, or overwhelmingly terrible. Having a group that likes the "traitor" mechanic is also important.

Yeah, first games can be rough if people aren't used to the game or the mechanic. But play it again sometime. It is really fun to have a Cylon at the beginning. It's even more fun if you have someone constantly accusing people of being the Cylon.

If there's no traitor in the beginning, it shouldn't be too bad of a game. You get to the sleeper phase a lot sooner so it gets intense really fast.

Damn, I want to play that game so badly right now.

Shadow,

If your group likes traitors but wasn't impressed with BSG and the lack of traitor, I would also suggest Shadows Over Camelot. It's another of my favorites (I like to lie to and/or accuse people in board games) that uses the traitor mechanic. You can set up the game so that there's definitely a traitor, but it can be difficult to spot the traitor because everyone has to do something negative.

That's pretty vague, but was it Cathedral?

I thought that was a good game. I don't know how to "solve" it, though.

Sure, I'll check that one out next, I do like some good proper Arthurian-style stories.

I do really like traitor mechanics though, especially when they're the focus of the game (like werewolf, mafia, Secret Hitler, or even Dead of Winter). I'm not a fan of Betrayal at House on the Hill though, just because it feels like the traitor is thrown in at the last second and then everyone has to go, "oh yeah, I totally knew that".

It's just one of those board games we happened to have. It's been so long since I played it, I don't remember anything about how to play it other than it involved those little card-like pieces. I'd completely forgotten about it until I saw one at a flea market a couple years ago. It looks like the company Winning Moves re-released it in 2016 reverting to the "disco" motif of the original version that we had.

You move along a board and place like go forward or go back x amount of spaces. And you score points. They have those as well

She didn't hate it, but she wasn't a super fan. It didn't help that we lost to some spiders and then to some bandits. Maybe I'll set it on easy mode for next time and see if she warms up to it. We can try normal again when we don't suck as much.

On my end, I liked it. It was a simplified role-playing game, as promised.

Learned about a game called Kingsburg, seems pretty cool and my brother says he's eventually going to get it.

It's somewhat similar to Settlers of Catan but without any trading and has a combat phase. It's more about each player amassing resources to build up their towns to get the most points to determine who wins in the end since there's a time limit, it's easy enough to learn but nuanced enough to keep things interesting. The majority of the game is played using dice and each player has to figure out what to allocate their dice to in order to determine what resources they get with the catch being they can choose only one space at a time and no player can pick an occupied space

i.e. player 1 rolls and uses his die to choose the #6 space while player 2 has two die left each with 3 on them so he can only choose the #3 space and can't combine his dice to get the #6 space since it was already taken

The first edition has 5 expansions while the second edition includes said 5 expansions built in with an extra mechanic but as a trade off everything looks a lot uglier, however, only 3 of the expansions seem to be worth it.

Definitely don't have even 10% of that... but I play a few.

Of "lesser known" games, my favourite is probably the Civilization Board Game. It's actually a lot of fun, but it takes a while to learn how to play it properly. The learning curve is quite steep.
