checking all the options. my first option is rolling over on nathan, but it looks like not snitching on nathan earlier is probably gonna make that tough.

jefferson is actually... pretty gentleman-like in accepting the blame? that was not nearly as entertaining or dramatic as snitching on nathan.

madsen is an asshole. but in the end that probably hurts chloe too much.

i'm going with nathan, because i'd rather keep jefferson's trust for now - don't wanna make an enemy of a serial killer - and don't want to throw chloe to the wolves

kate lived. the dialogue was actually kind of awkward - straight up a checklist of stuff i did. but i get the point.

maybe she dies if i do anything differently. i did literally everything to support her i think (including knowing to bring up her sisters at the end)

yeah that is a little weird. every telltale-y adventure game has some kind of thing like that to show you that your choices matter. it's effective there though - or at least I didn't mind it.

the sister question is the one that gets people. I got it by pure guessing.

I screwed up on my first playthrough and let her die. I chose the wrong family member and wrong Bible verse.

awesome!

tbh, i'm even more concerned about the codependency of chloe. is she not into women, and just dangerously clingy/codependent?

i hope answering the phone there wasn't some sort of sadistic choice that saved kate but doomed chloe. max texts chloe back saying "let's investigate!" at the end of the day and chloe STILL seems lonely.

i didn't have a bible verse

says here 62% save kate, and a whopping 72% blame nathan

that said, i think a lot more people snitch on nathan early, unlike me

You learn a lot more about Chloe in chapters 3 and 4, some good moments there.

And yea for me on both my playthroughs I had pretty much the same questions. One was a Bible verse from her room which I didn't get on my first playthrough and the another was a family member that cares. I chose her mom the first time which was a bad decision.

The second time I paid attention to the verses in her room and chose her dad, which ended up saving her.

I guessed wrong in the sisters part and got her killed her too.

I have not seen the part where she survives. It's a shame to hear it's somewhat anticlimactic, since when she died I was like "dammit, I really screwed up".

I forgot about the dumb bottle quest but there were a fair amount of little things to do in the junkyard that made it worth it to walk all over it and explore it. The deer ghost thing, the Rachel/Chloe safe space, Max's musings, sitting on the deck for some thoughts, the cool snapshot of the bus, etc. The time rewind mechanic does feel like a chore sometimes, especially when it's like "thing falls, rewind time so you're ahead of it now". It feels less like gameplay and more like wasting time.

yeah, i mean, some good comes of it - especially the chloe-rachel shrine - but anything this spatially demanding needs a map for me. my head hurt a lot after searching for so long. and totally agree about the rewind-to-stop-something-from-falling crap. the controls are kind of clunky as well, which makes it really annoying to deal with.

This

Kates rooftop scene was my #3 moment in gaming when I did a countdown topic last year. It completely flips the script of the game by introducing real stakes because youre tapped out of your power. For the first time, you cant cheese your way out of it. Whatever happens to her happens for real.

Went with Mr. Jefferson. I didn't want to needlessly antagonize David any further, and I didn't want to rope Nathan into the whole mess given his connections until I had all the necessary evidence. Mr. Jefferson felt like the most disposable character in terms of usefulness and impact, and he took it like a champ.

for me it was like.. I've already seen Nathan kill Chloe. I don't need to incur any more of that. I also didn't tell Wells about him so it felt easier not to go back on that.

Kate was a strong end to an episode but I would have at least two other LIS moments above it (not going to go into detail until sd gets there). I know some people were super impacted by it though since they restrict the rewind and rely on the player having learned all about Kate over the course of hours. you kinda get what you put in to her.

It was impactful for me because I didn't really expect it. That was the moment where I realized that the game was more serious than I thought it was.

The mechanical impact combined with the narrative is what made it the best to me. It was everything Telltale games tried to do but couldn't. The other impacts are super good too though (and in the moment I did think each episode was better than the last).

This, but for comparing the whole game against what Telltale does. TWDS1 was great because it was the first of its kind, and then LiS showed what the genre really could be.

General comment that's barely about Before the Storm but I wanna be really safe: and then LiS:BtS tried to be Telltale. They did it well, but LiS's time-manipulation (which allows the lack of power in Kate's moment) is what makes the game for me to have such weight in its choices that nothing else in the genre has.
