It'll die soon. Most people keep numbers on their phones, these days. And no one is giving away a phone. Maybe text a contact. Or text a bunch of contacts or something. But it is strange... Though, I do know of people who contact random people, sometimes...

I was gonna say another trope was worse, but yeah, that trope is shitty.

But the I know youre in there somewhere trope is pretty bad too. Except its sort of worse because a lot of shows are doing that these days and they never do anything cool or exciting with it.

I hate the old trope of the dad promising to be at a ball game or recital or something and then he cant make it because he does a job and the whole family is like fuck you, you awful dad

When I mean they seem to enjoy that he pays the bills and everything maybe they should cut him some slack, the guy already works hard now you want him to spend all his free time watching some bullshit t-ball game that only exists to charge parents uniform and equipment fees

Just wait for the paragraph explaining how this illogical thought is logical, and the comments that people who disagree are lacking in social skills.

He says without ever having tried it...

And honestly, it's not just limited to dating. If you have a mutual contact who gives you a person's number, you can arrange meetings with a lot of people. It's far more effective than just a normal cold call. Granted, I forget that I'm on a board where many of the posters are petrified by the prospect of talking to strangers. It's not that scary, folks.

In addition to Fresh Prince, I know I've seen it in a film or two. In general, the black book is one of those tropes made obsolete by improved technology since nowadays that info is just stored on a person's cell phone.

Honestly, while he referred to it as a "TV trope" (probably in reference to the site), it's probably much more common in film.

It's not a matter of a book, it's being given the number of *any* third-party. The concept of the black book is -- as already mentioned -- obsolete, considering that the same info can just be stored in your cell phone.
