If you think reading a list is as exciting as watching a hype trailer, more power to you, but it really shouldn't take too much lateral thinking, even for b8, to imagine that some prefer the latter.

They literally didn't announce it at all.

I feel like they released the direct out of the blue because they saw people were getting hyped and it was always going to be a chill direct, so they knew if they made any announcement about it people would complain that it wasn't a big one.

The only reason we knew about a January direct was because of leaked EA marketing material that mentioned the Direct would be a good time to reintroduce Fe, and that Nintendo's audience might be more receptive. That's all.

Mostly remasters, but the right remasters. I'm interested in all of those, especially TWEWY. And they all have new stuff except Dark Souls right? That's pretty cool.

Also, that new Mario Tennis game looked really damn good. Hopefully a return to form for the series!

I was slightly disappointed by the lack of Octopath Traveller and Yoshi news though. Fire Emblem too but that will probably be later.

I'm guessing Smash is their big holiday game this year. Maybe Animal Crossing. Unless there's a Mario B team working on a surprise New Super Mario Bros. Switch, I don't know what else they could have that would be close to as big a deal as Odyssey.

Their current Pokmon release info is "2018 or later" so they're at least aiming for this year, as opposed to just "TBA" for Metroid Prime 4.

An Animal Crossing will sell a ton and could easily be announced soon. Bayonetta 3 is reportedly going to be this year and that would likely be a huge critical success. Fire Emblem will both sell and get great reviews. They'll certainly have big stuff later in the year.

One thing I'm curious about is worldwide releases going forward. Fire Emblem Echoes was a month apart for Japan and America, but Fates was 8 months. Xenoblade X was 8 months, but XB2 was simultaneous. Will Dragon Quest XI (Switch) and Fire Emblem Switch have worldwide releases, or will they be months apart?

I do watch every official announcement hoping that they leave out a lot of stuff to be surprised about, but they don't
They got it right with Gens 4 and 5, they only started doing the "let's reveal 80% of the new stuff" from generation 6

To be honest, I feel this way about Smash bros. In both Brawl and Smash 4, 80% of the newcomers were officially revealed pre-launch, leaving very few surprises even if you ignored the leaks. It kinda ruined it a bit.

I think everyone knows how I feel about Tropical Freeze here it's one of my favorite games of all time and my favorite platformer bar none but Funky looks to just be a glorified easy mode...which is incredibly disappointing. Part of my love for Tropical Freeze is the ridiculous difficulty. Really wish they could've just added Funky and made easy mode a separate addition. Think I'm going to have to pass on rebuying this unless there are new levels or something.

Hyrule Warriors is hype though. It was one of the few big games I never got for the Wii U, and now I'm stoked I waited.

Be excited! Base Hyrule Warriors with its free dlc already had more content than even the most hardened of musou fans could shake a stick at. With all the dlc and additional content from both versions all pulled in to this one, it's nigh endlessly playable.

As someone who has most of their friends move away to other places, this is something I would absolutely want to do and have wanted to do so with many games that only have local multiplayer...
