I actually just did this a few minutes ago except it was 3:33 instead of 3:30

Anyway, it's a little bit of a pain but not to the point that it deters me from playing. It's more just a feeling of disappointment

Digital for life. I like having a case I can look at, but honestly the convenience is more than worth the trade-off.

No, less so actually.

You do realise that both the PS4 and Xbox One require installs to the hard drive for physical games, so space is now an issue for physical games.

Absolutely, yes. I'm much less likely to make progress on multiple games at once if they're all physical. Short of very obvious "one and done" games, I'm moving to getting as many games digitally as I possibly can, it's just an infinitely better experience for me.

It's actually pretty frustrating on PS4 considering all you get for buying physical is the annoyance of having to switch - the game fully installs just as much data on your console as a digital copy would, so the physical disc just serves as an annoying "key" to get to what's already taking up space on your console.

At the same time, it's a little silly that (despite them wasting a bunch of plastic,) physical games are actually on average cheaper. Steam aside, it definitely seems like they go on sale more often, and services like Amazon/Best Buy don't offer their default 20% off for digital games.

Yeah, my gaming purchases for consoles and handhelds have been more and more of the digital variety since like 2013 or so. I no longer want to deal with the space that physical games take up, and the overall convenience that digital has is too good to pass up.

I definitely see the perks of digital overall and have been buying more and more games that way, but I think I'm with Menji on this particular point. I'd rather switch discs a hundred times than have to re-download something. If I delete a game for space, I'm more likely to go back to it if I only have to wait on a quick install and maybe a patch than if I have to redownload the entire thing. If I have to redownload, I often find myself putting in a disc in the meantime and then like 80% of the time never end up touching the game I downloaded

Yeah, this is true enough. It's really only an issue if you play a lot of sports games since those take up a lot of space.

switching discs isn't terrible, but I haaaate getting up to change Switch carts

I have a physical version of Splatoon 2 (came with the console) and I never play it anymore since I don't want to get up and switch a cart for a quick game

I have half a mind to just keep it in there at all times and buy everything else digital

The base models of consoles have about 400 GBs of usable space, and some of the most popular games (Battlefield, FF15, Call of Duty, Destiny, Forza) on console take up 60 gigs on the low end, and 100 gigs on the high end. It's not a rare problem. Destiny 2 takes up a quarter of PS4 HDD space. Battlefield 1 takes up a quarter of PS4 HDD space. Things quickly add up.

This is a huge one. For games like Puyo Tet, Splatoon 2 and anything else that you usually want to pick up and play for a quick spurt before moving on to something else, having to change a cartridge/disc basically guarantees I'm almost never going to play the game. I think a big part of it is Steam has spoiled me. PC has been all digital for more than a decade at this point, and seeing how nice it is to be able to jump between however many games you want with just a click really highlights how needlessly annoying it is to go fetch something from a box any time you want to play a different game.

Again, though, installing off a disc is much quicker than downloading, so treating them the exact same there isn't really fair

If space is a concern and you're constantly deleting games, that's one place physical tends to be better

I can see this for some folks, that's fair. I personally have a PS4 Pro and have 20ish games installed with more than half of the HDD still free.

There's also nice tricks you can use to make downloading less of a problem if your internet is a bit on the slow side. You can even start a game download on your phone when you're out and about, and the game will be installed and waiting for you when you get home!
