If you want to run in and grab one or two things last minute (say milk and a few things for breakfast in the morning), or something hygiene related, condoms, etc.. whatever. Doesn't seem like a big deal.

But 9/10 times I see people walk in and fill a shopping cart, and just casually walk around and continue shopping through all the announcements and even past the closing time. I think that's a dick move and I don't even work in retail. As a customer I personally wouldn't do that, I understand that people just want to close their shit down and go home at the end of the day.

Well expect to get shitty service and get shit talked the entire time behind your back. Nobody likes last minute customers. Everyone just wants to go home, and when dicks come in 5 minutes before closing they can go die in a fire

oh no, the shitty people working minimum wage service jobs will dislike me!

Fuck them, schedules are to be respected. People who stay past closing time are assholes, but there's nothing wrong with dropping by at 9:40 and leaving at 9:45 for a store that closes at 10:00. If they have a problem with it then they should take it up with management.

Good stores "close" a half hour before the employees are expected to leave so people can actually show up when the place is OPEN and expect to be served at capacity, but also allows the employees paid time to clean up once everyone is gone. This weird adversarial way some places are set up where they basically force the employees to either work for free or offer substandard service to customers makes no sense. Employees should blame the business, not the guy walking in near closing, for this problem.

Do you really think you will accomplish your shopping in a few minutes before closing? I can't fault businesses that don't allow new customers before they close their doors.

i think that if the store is advertised to be open until 10, then it is open until 10

And if you are already inside then you still have till 10 to finish.

Like a resterant that takes 10-15 to cook someone order shouldn't be taken new customers 15 minutes to close otherwise they will forced to be open later.

Restaurants close their kitchen before closing time because of this. You can get drinks and stuff until they close.

Why are you waiting to go to a store at 9:40 at night? What do you need so bad that can't wait until morning?

Some of us work night shift, and sometimes I need to run in and buy something real quick before I head into work.

Some people have different schedules than the norm and have to go buy whatever it is they need to buy at that time, and if the store's open, then I'm gonna go and get what I need. I'll try to be quick and nice to the employees, but I'm still gonna get what I needed to get.

I've never seen a group of people complain more about doing their jobs then retail employees. I think coal miners whine less.

In every job I've worked, if you had work to do after your shift, you did it. No ifs, ands or buts. No extra pay, no cutting customers off, you just did the extra work. So if that meant staying 20 minutes past the end of your shift, tough shit.

So why are people in this topic complaining about not being able to knock off twenty minutes early instead of staying to your designated time? Are you all really that entitled?

I tend to have a 30 minute rule when it comes to business hours, for a store or a restaurant. If it closes at 10, I won't go in after 9:30, i'll consider them closed. That's just me. If a store wants to lock the doors before the posted closing time, anything more than 10 minutes early is a bit obnoxious. If my kid starts running a fever suddenly at night, and CVS closes at 10 and the doors are locked at 9:45 and I need that medicine, i'll at least knock and say I literally need one thing, I know where it is, and i'll be at checkout within 2 minutes. 9 times out of 10 they say that's fine. Every now and again you get that asshole that refuses you because them leaving work 3 minutes sooner is more important to them than the health needs of your child, that's when I submit a comment to corporate.

LMAOing @ The people in this topic bitching about customers who come in during business hours.

Get the fuck over it.

If your sign says it closes at 10:00 and I get there at 9:53, best believe that I'm going in. When I do, then it would only be for a couple of things (I'll spare you the walk to return the cart/hand basket back the store) usually. However, if it's a two-cart shopping visit, then obviously I'd drive those extra miles and go to a 24 hour store.

I'm there to get my shit and get out for my own convenience, not to appease you disgruntled, and self-entitled cryployees with no sense of work ethic.

wtf, I didn't expect this shit to get more than 5 posts. I just wanted to vent lol

And skimming through the topic, yeah. I can see how it's annoying for someone to show up at the last minute and stay 30 minutes after the store is closed (especially since it forces the worker to stay and work for free, which I didn't even know that was a thing. lol)

But idk, I feel like there's a way around that (if that problem is really that common). Like have the store close 30 minutes earlier but still have the workers work and get paid for that 30 extra minutes. Like instead of closing at 10, say it closes at 9:30 but have the workers stay and get paid until 10 pm.

I've been in a situation where I got bitched out by management for staying over when I literally couldn't leave when we closed because a customer was being annoyingly obtuse about everything and forced me to stay over a measly 15 minutes.

15 minutes and they threatened to fire me

feel like everyone is conflating going in before a store's closing with going in, staying, and still trying to shop well past the closing hours and getting mad with the latter

I'd hope we can all agree that courtesy for the time of others is beneficial, but that applies both ways, and if you apply to a place with late operating hours then you can't justifiably get mad at a quick shopper whose life schedule you don't know just because they come in when it is listed they can

When i worked in a restaurant i would turn off the open sign about 30 mins before we closed. I would still take people but it would give us a chance to appear closed so we could actually get out in time. Even with the extra hour we got after we closed we still might not get out in time.

There were dishes, breaking down our line, putting food away and labeled, cleaning fryers and stoves, sweeping, mopping, and a bunch of other shit we had to deal with every day. I feel like the people who never complain are the people who never worked near food.
