it's too bad you're doing it this way because E2-3 might kill you

...actually, how are you doing that? just within AAI2 I guess since that's where the future stuff lands?

it's really good that you don't have to do 5 or 6 up front because those would definitely ruin your flow

I'm just going to do E2-3 as is and treat the flashback stuff as "Edgeworth is listening to Ray tell a story" since that's actually what's happening. Same with 4-4. Just treat the MASON System stuff as "You are watching a simulation" since that's actually what's happening.

If AAI2 and AJ had a scene select, it'd be easier to skip around, but alas.

It might not be until 1-4 since Edgeworth is the prosecutor in 3-4, 1-2, and 1-3, and E1-4 is longer than all of those cases. I guess we'll see how long he can hold onto that lead.

Probably so since prosecutors generally don't show up during investigations.

But Edgeworth might have more lines in E1-4 Beginning than 1-1 has total, so he might just be able to hold him at bay by having just enough lines.

although I forgot Phoenix has no assistant in 1-2 so he's going to dominate that one

yeah maybe 1-3

hey guys! I'm finally getting to AA6 now. just finished 6-2, figured I'd give some running thoughts.

6-1 was okay. I think the change of setting was pretty effective in switching things up and giving phoenix an excuse to be a newbie again. the facts of the case weren't very interesting, but the characters were pretty good - ahlbi was really endearing and the villain (whose excellent name I am not going to look up) was pretty good, though the constant musical interludes definitely became less amusing as time went on. the vague allusions to darker things going on in khura'in were kinda cool, though I did feel like it undercut things at the end to hear that the killer didn't actually steal the orb. they did a kinda similar thing in DD, as I recall, revealing that the 5-1 killer didn't bomb the courtroom after all. definitely goes to the overcomplexity of everything in recent AA games that you guys discussed before - I didn't like it then, and i didn't really like this either. but that's a minor point really! overall, kind of a middling intro case.

I actually liked 6-2 a lot! I scanned this topic to see what people said about it, and I definitely concur that the murder was a bit mad and not really perfectly explained. but overall, this falls into the 5-3 category for me - cases where there's a really good setting and cast, and a fairly ridiculous murder doesn't really detract much from the overall impact. Trucy is great as ever here, I really like the Apollo/Athena double act, and the case specific characters are cool too - Retinz/Reus is a quality villain, even if he felt like he went down one testimony too soon, and I enjoyed the Betty/Bonny dynamic once their twin identities were revealed. for a first non-tutorial case, I enjoyed this a lot (thinking about it, I think that most X-2 cases are actually kind of overrated).

vague AAI2-excluding off-the-top-of-my-head case rankings, for perspective:

pinnacle: 3-5, 2-4, 1-4
near perfect: 1-5, 3-4, 5-4/5, 3-3, 5-3, 3-2
great: 4-4, 1-3, E1-4, E1-5
good: 6-2, 4-1, 2-2, 5-2
decent: E1-3, 4-2, 3-1, 6-1, E1-1, E1-2
not great, bob: 2-3, 1-2, 5-1, 1-1, 2-1, 4-3

Only catch is someone is borrowing aa4 from me and I prob won't have it back in time so I might skip it but no real loss. I assume it's best to play aai2 right after aai1? 1-5
3-1
3-2
3-4
4-1
4-2
4-3
4-4
5-1
5-2
5-4
6-1
6-2 (Best defendant testimony ever)
6-5

Lana Skye also has the final testimony of the case, doesn't she? (Since blah blah Gant plot contrivances) Clearly the defendant having the last testimony is one of the marks of a bad case!

On average I'm not a huge fan of the defendant testifying. Such testimonies are often kinda awkward because the prosecutor should be the one cross-examining them (the defendant is generally gonna want to make himself/herself look good, potentially even lying to do so, and the prosecutor should be shooting those lies down), but that's never what AA does (which is justified gameplaywise, mind). Sometimes it absolutely works, though, like in 6-2.

I similarly know why Engarde couldn't testify, but it's a damn shame he doesn't. I can't help but feel that 2-4 would be even better if Engarde had a bit more screentime during the trial itself.

I know Gant interrupts her final testimony before you even get a chance to cross-examine her, but I don't think it's the final one of the case unless 1-5 just has a really long final stretch with no testimonies.

I was thinking of this the other day- I kind of remember when the trailer first came out for AA5, someone, from here I think, had this really interesting theory that Phoenix committed suicide shortly after he was disbarred and that in AA4, that is Maya channeling him- and that's why he doesn't take off the beanie. Because she doesn't have the hair quite right? And then in AA5 when "Phoenix" is "back", he has that weird little hair cleft or something which was to be representative of Maya's longer hair? This being an explanation for not only why Maya isn't around but why Phoenix never mentions Maya at all in AA4.

There was a lot more to it than that, and a lot more of the interesting specifics that could've fit with that line of thinking but I forget most of it- does anyone remember that theory and the specifics?

I think when Badd tells you that he waited on the first floor until Gumshoe got there and when he got to the hallway, Yew was already there, that's when I figured out who the killer was because they had to already be dead before Gumshoe got there for someone else to be the killer. I'm usually pretty bad at figuring these things out, but that one seemed kind of obvious to me.
