also i just beat little red lie and whew those 5 hours felt like 10 with how tired it made me feel. in the positive way that a game made specifically to be brutally... honest about how much money controls our lives can be. and unlike the other depressing games of 2017 i played and loved, this one doesn't have even a tinge of hope in it!

glad i played it anyway. i read that paste review when it was published in july and had the game in the back of my head since then. but hey maybe it's better that i played it now that i'm in a much better state of mind.

i should really get around to playing actual sunlight one of these days.

2 hours, but unlike other similar narrative adventure games it's easier to break up into smaller chunks because the vignettes that make up the game are fairly short.

So I talked about this in the Xenoblade topic, but I actually restarted Xenoblade 2 a week or so ago. I've actually been taking my time, fighting more battles and focusing on building my blades' affinity charts, instead of feeling rushed to try and finish by the end of the year for stupid arbitrary GotY consideration. My issues with the game have diminished a bit in light of this. I think there are still a lot of QoL problems that should be addressed, and there's still too much shuffling around in menus, but I'm not actively hating the game yet. I'm only up to Chapter 4 now, though, so we'll see if it continues this way.

seems like people are more positive about assassin's creed than they have been since black flag. i'd say the iron is pretty warm.

this is definitely not true

it's perhaps the most true in gaming, maybe because games can take up such a large time, but it exists to the same extent in movies (gotta watch all the oscar noms before the oscars, etc), and to a lesser extent in music and books

Yeah, I'm not sure what possessed me to try again. I guess just reading other people talk about the game on the internet made me feel like I was missing out the first time by not really engaging in all the systems the game has. I do still think that there's a bit too much to manage - I'm still mostly ignoring pouch items except when needed for affinity charts, for example.

I also think some of the frustration I had in my first go around is alleviated by the fact that I know where to go for most of the story triggers. There were definitely a few frustrating parts where the quest marker was no help pointing me to the correct destination, causing me to aimlessly wander for far too long.

i've circumvented that issue by doing every single thing i could possibly do in an area before moving on to the next story bit, but i don't think that excuses pathfinding in this game

Yeah, I'm definitely being more methodical about scouring every area before moving on this time. The music helps with that. Can't get enough of that Uraya theme.
