Zack can't really do anything else besides lifesiphon, power chain, devrish, northern cross and omega drive. His ability use is pathetic so he doesn't have any other options, so you do need a battery like Shelke or fully legend dive him so he can do something besides be dead weight after he uses his chain.

My standard best team beat Kefka (Minwu Rydia Tidus Rikku Sazh-- I did give Rydia Alexander instead of Leviathan but that was the extent of my counterbuilding. Luckily her burst commands are hybrid holy too) but it got a lot more dicey at the end than I expected. Once he gets that magitek infusion the dude goes pretty wild.

I thought Kefka was pretty easy, he's mostly magic based so Vaan's BSB softened his offense. Firion was dishing a ton of damage with his USB and made short work of him, only thing I really had to worry about was getting confused.

Also Rikku ate a ton of the 4* vit motes I farms today because of her Beserker sphere, but at least she's fully 4* dived, 'cept now I want to Legend dive her but she uses bravery motes! WTF why does she use those instead of dexterity motes? Ugh.

With Zack I'm thinking that LM would be useless in the setup I'm planning, but its a good stat stick bracer. Wouldn't he be good with someone like Zell (Zell BSB ups crit chance, Zack CSB ups crit damage)? I have Fang for imperil wind, so I was thinking I throw Cloud USB RW on Zack and he just Omega Drives so I don't necessarily need an entrust battery on him. I dunno I'm not too great with party setups

I'm ending up skipping the fest completely too. The banner that had the most things I really wanted was #3 but it also had five dupes. The element I need help with is ice, but I don't like this banner very much. Already have both of Lightning's relics, don't really want to use Snow for ice, don't need Kain for my lightning team. So I have a little mythril and I need to decide if I want to spend it on the Terra banner (characters I like, but somewhat low power level compared to upcoming banners with just 2 USB / 1 OSB), OK banner, or save for Orlandu banner.

Just 100 gems for the fest, banner 4 is the most tempting for Kain's chain and Lightning's USB since Bismarck is the magicite I have the least tools for sub30ong but still, Onion Knight's USBs are more important overall.

Totally bummed that I used up all my weekly stamina potions on the Wisdom mote dungeon and I still need more, sheesh.

yeah i also had five dupes on the wind banner. Tidus CSB and Tidus/Zack/Fujin/Alphinaud BSBs. plus Yuffie's USB so her BSB there is basically just +10 atk.

and four dupes on the ice/lightning banner, including both of the great BSBs (Squall and Edea, with Desch and Kain as the others). i guess Squall LMR is the one 5* that could be of use to me but for the most part it's disco ball or bust. and i'm not super enthused about the characters. i'd use them if i happen to get their stuff but when they're the grand prizes, the only motivation i have to pull for them is that chains basically are a catalyst to let the characters i actually like wreck things harder. that's the only reason i'm still considering it.

Yeah I'm skipping the fest too. Fortifying certain elements is the main thing I have to do right now and these banners aren't doing it the way I want-- like for instance I'd like to get stuff for Sabin, Vivi, and Balthier if I'm trying to focus on making Fire better rather than Braska and Krile. So the upcoming Sabin banner is kinda better for that.

I actually kinda like the event banners more nowadays because they tend to stack single characters up a lot so it's easier to get stuff for a character you like. I guess some fest banners do it too but they seem a bit less focused on individual characters.

i don't care about any of the Fire characters, really. like Balthier and Steiner are cool but not huge favorites. i skipped the fire banner because there's a good chance of me getting those CSBs and other great fire stuff while pulling for Yuffie, Celes/Edgar, and Leo/Relm/Kefka. hell, Celes and Edgar themselves would probably do better fire damage than Balthier or Steiner. or i might decide to go for Vivi. i never liked him that much but he is damn fun to use.

i wish they had given us KC3 so i could take Seph's en-fire to go with his OSB and those somewhat new samurai abilities... or that they hadn't abandoned fire for him.

Yeah, it seems like we're getting to a point where you get more benefit from focusing on specific characters instead of just grabbing whatever. LMRs are basically worthless unless you also have a good SB for the character. There are lots of SB combos too.

Usually it seems like fests emphasize the leads and popular characters but this time they didn't do it nearly as much. No Terra, no Celes, no Cecil, no Sephiroth, no Beatrix, no Zidane, etc. This was just a disappointing fest. But the last one was good, and hopefully the next one (3rd anniversary) will be too.

I've been thinking about the first XII banner a lot and basically thinking it seems like a really strong banner, even compared to what's coming up. I already have Ashe dived so would love her LMR and her USB. Vaan's USB seems really good for non elemental damage. And Balthier's stuff isn't bad either. Finally did a pull and got one rainbow and one disco ball. First one was dupe Princely Raiment. Second one was Ashe USB! I would still like to get Vaan USB and Ashe LMR but I'm quitting while I'm ahead here. Still have 142 mythril so I'll be able to do up to 3 pulls on Onion Banner (and/or Terra banner).

Well, I guess you're right they're definitely better than nothing. But what I meant is more if you're taking on high level content you'd way rather have LMR and USB for the same character instead of two different characters, since they usually synergize.

Anyone who already has Ramza's USB, what are your thoughts on pulling for OK's stuff next week vs saving for the Orlandu banner and trying to get Ramza's LMR? Or do you try for both?

Ramza and OK fill pretty similar roles if you have the USBs plus LMR. OK's biggest advantage is that can pump out a decent amount of damage himself (especially with EX mode). Ramza's biggest advantage is that his USB is better for mixed teams (how the tables have turned!) and you only need one instead of two - that and the fact that I already have his USB and have invested a lot in him (full dive).

Not really sure what to do, but I guess my default is probably like 2 pulls on each banner and see what I get.

the problem with Ramza's USB is no haste. while it might be okay to run shout + USB in a physical focused party with a single self-buffing mage, i wouldn't leave Ramza as the only haste option in a 3 mage party. so there's often going to be room for both. for me, OK would be an upgrade in every conceivable way over Papalymo, and with 3 faithgas needed there would usually be room for both Ramza and OK.

OK's physical USB doesn't have as much appeal to me. Ramza shout + either chant or USB combined with Eiko seems like it'd work better for the most part. i might rather have his BSB tbqh, as that could still work in the mage role.

Hmm, yeah, no haste is sometimes a problem. I usually use Fabula Raider (in Magicites) or Hyper Mighty G RW to go with History's Truth. If I'm not bringing one of those two RWs then I've usually been cutting Ramza for Minfilia instead - her USB is hastega and +30% ATK/MAG/RES.

I never use Eiko anymore even though I have her BSB because I need either wall or last stand from my healer. I also don't use Chant because it just seems like Ramza has better things to do with his bar (either entrust or more History's Truth for more free actions). So I do think OK's Ninja Mode USB would be an upgrade from Shout, but I'm not sure how often I'd actually use it since it does nothing for magic users. I don't use Shout all that much these days.

man, i cleared like ten difficulty 200+ bosses today and still have 6 left, plus two entire other events to clear. i'm not even getting a chance to attempt Golem at this rate.

i just realized i should have spent stamina pots on major dark orbs. why does every ninja skill need them? though earth crystals aren't a bad use for the stamina either and i can still do that just before the greens store resets again.

We've come a long way since Locke's first event, Legendary Plunder. That one had 30 areas (15 classic and 15 elite) and every one had 3 stages. This one has 13 areas and they all have one stage except Narshe (+) which has two. Legendary Plunder took 955 stamina total to finish, just under two full days (!) of stamina. The Greatest Hunt takes 215 (a bit more if you include bonus battles and multiplayer, but still waay less.

Not counting the first two events (when I wasn't playing), there are only three stages in all of FFRK history that I didn't/couldn't master, and one of them was in Legendary Plunder. They were:

Parade Float Elite (To Slay a Sorceress)
Airship Elite (Legendary Plunder)
Boundless Nemesis

Airship Elite wasn't even the last area in that event, it was only 12th out of 15! But you had to fight two separate boss battles (Ultros and Typhon followed by Air Force) and I just didn't have the hones to get mastery. I did complete it though, unlike the other two in that list. I think that was before RWs were even added to the game but I can't remember for sure.

yeah i remember Ultros/Chupon/IAF. i was able to complete it and it was one of the toughest things i've ever done in this game, especially considering i started a bit over a month late. wish i remembered to take a screencap of it. i'm pretty sure i used Cloud, Terra, Rinoa as three of them... probably Tyro and Wakka as the other two?

i had to set it up so at least one of Cloud/Terra/Rinoa leveled up after Ultros/Chupon but before IAF. maybe all three, or maybe even Tyro as well. i'm pretty sure RWs were a thing then and i took sentinel grimoire for mine.

Apparently I only got expert against the Red Dragon but mastered the overall dungeon thanks to trash stages. Cloud, Celes, Locke, Lenna, and Terra was my party. Apparently I wasn't even using retaliate yet then, man that was early! That was before I started arranging my party FF IV style too.

oh wow. 2 crystal helms, the quake spell, and a rank 5 hone. i didn't get my first crystal helm until late 2016 <_<

only screens i could find from that event were the mastery screen from IAF and red dragon, as well as red dragon's death; no abilities or hones. though i remember for red dragon i exploited the 0 def bug.

the only really old screens i could find with parties were NORG and the boss rush of the first FFIX event with Black Waltzes. i started taking screens regularly with the introduction of the ultimate difficulty level, so that's pretty old by this point, but sort of the beginning of "modern" FFRK.

I used a mythril to revive against the Red Dragon back then. It felt absolutely worth it for the rewards.

Didn't master Airship Elite, and I'm not even sure I cleared it.

I'm 99% sure, RWs were added in a maintainance that happened while Legendary Plunder was live, but I couldn't be bothered to try again after RWs were added.

Yeah, I remember grinding for the orbs I needed for Quake. I want to say it was Phantom Train in the story dungeons but I'm not 100% sure about that. Back then there were hardly any AOE abilities and I think that quake was literally the only 4* black magic ability at first.

i remember there was an Aeris event that had ended just before i started that gave out a bunch of greater orbs, and people took advantage of that to be able to make quake. and yeah it was the only 4* black magic for a while. though for me, thundaja and firaja came out not long after.

having beat a Magicite i decided I would take a run at some Torment, which I had been avoiding

D200(with all FF1) and D250 beaten for FF1 but man trying to do 300 with 3 FF1 guys is .... a thing.

Countdown to Destruction (the Aeris event) was my first event. I'm not sure if I got all the rewards... it was a collection event and back then you had to grind a ton to get all the rewards. I might have gotten everything but the major orbs though, at the beginning they made major orbs almost impossible to get.

flans were FF6, the Celes event. you might be thinking of FF12 flans because those are popular to grind in FF12 itself. i believe you could afk level on them, though i never did it myself.

Astos jump start Cid Mission done with zero FF1 relics. Tidus + Cloud USB ripped him to shreds with support from Rikku, Wol, Echo and Sarah. Rikku having both USB and imperil BSB really came in handy. stacked 3 types of magic breaks + armor, and gave Wol the magic lure RM for survival, though he mostly died too fast to get out of his scripted status effects. even had a spare slot for Sarah to use holy for 3k damage for the medals (though i didn't even need it for mastery).
