This was one of the main things I didn't like. At the time, I really disliked most of the new Pokemon and therefore didn't want to have to use them. That's something more Pokemon games need to do.

In X/Y and S/M, I'd only catch and use Pokemon that were new to the generation anyway.

I loved Black/White, and I want to see another game where there are 150+ new Pokemon and those are the main or only ones you encounter during the story.

Especially now with international releases.

I think it's mostly people too attached to old pokemon who hate change. but yea, the story is really good. maybe the best story of the series.

My least favorite designs and metagame (weather literally everywhere, obnoxious). Also came out when I just got to college so I was at an all time low when it came to interest in Pokemon. There was other stuff but I can't remember what that was right now.

Gen V literally ruined battling other people with weather being objectively overpowered

Power creep making a lot of old stuff obsolete

Beginning of long boring story sequences in the games

Gym leaders only using 3 Pokemon and basically being a joke compared to platinum

The art is really fucking bad

It's not the worst but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike it, although my issue with the art is incredibly subjective

But definitely, the unova Dex itself was smaller than it should have been for such a thing

The biggest issue is that after the story, there's what, 3 routes and a cave plus forest. And after beating those trainers there's... Nothing. Battle subway. No other place to battle, limited national Dex options in game.

And the fact that you only have one e4 format in the 60-70 range also was a complaint I've seen. Could easily have had us finish the plasma arc then beat the e4 at a normal 40-55 range.

I liked how it was all new Pokemon for the story portion, even if several were just recreations of already existing 'mons. I also liked that the games went a different route for the story ending.

This. Black/White had a lot of gameplay problems, and the whole "only Unova Pokemon until post-game" thing was bad. Plus, the actual lack of things to do in that postgame only made it even more disappointing. But Black2/White2 fixed almost all of those issues.

This too. The amazing story was the one thing that Black/White did really well. I loved that the gym leaders actually played a major role in the story besides "beat us and you get a badge and an ability to use a certain HM move" enemies. On the subject of HM's, that fact that (besides Cut at the very beginning) Black/White could be beaten entirely without using HM's was another good thing. All the HM's were used for was optional stuff like getting certain items. That was a good idea.

They do. The seasons are based on months, though. January is winter, February is summer, etc.

The story wasn't actually that good. Sure, maybe better than any other Pokemon story, but that's not exactly a high bar. It sucks that they're still trying to pretend they can write for shit because people couldn't stop creaming their pants over BW.

And then you get into the shitty gameplay and the hideous new Pokemon with no options for older Pokemon. The only possible worse games were gen 2.

The "Unova Only" gimmick is why I still played Pokemon as long as I did. I was decidedly done with Pokemon, having felt Platinum was enough.

Hearing that Unova would be completely removed from everything I was familiar with, I decided to try to go in unspoiled. That was a great experience, actually. GameFreak still managed to fuck it up a little, since so many Pokemon were obvious and inferior expies of older Pokemon, but still, being able to go into caves and not see the usual suspects was refreshing. Also some Pokemon were just straight badass, like Scolipede.

I dunno how easy it would be to play them again since the freshness is gone, but for the point in time they were released, I loved them. Got to have one last "new" adventure before I got totally sick of the series. I don't know what they've got planned after Sun/Moon but this is the first time since Platinum that I've given zero fucks about what comes next, so... >_>

Thats actually something I really liked about them.
It let them showcase the new Pokmon.

I wish Sun/Moon did something similar. I dont mean force you to only use new Pokmon, but at least make it easier to catch them. Many of the new Pokmon in Alola had a low encounter rate.

Living garbage bags, a candle with eye stickers put onto it that evolves into a lantern with eye stickers put onto it that evolves into a chandelier with eye stickers put onto it, a snot nosed polar bear that evolves into a polar bear whose only notable features that distinguish it from any other cartoon polar bear is a snot beard and crotch fur, Tauros with an afro, the Pachirisu evolution that isn't a Pachirisu evolution and therefore has no reason to exist, the Luvdisc evolution that isn't one and has no reason to exist, palette swap genies, palette swap monkeys, goth abominations, the pink Drowzee and Hypno knockoffs, the steroid clown Mach- line knockoffs, the stupid Geodude and evolution line knockoffs, the stupid puppy that looks like someone threw a pie at its face that involves into god knows what, the drug addicted Rattata and Raticate ripoffs, generic cartoon deer, generic cartoon crab demented ripoffs of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, oh, and did I mention there's FUCKING ICE CREAM POKMON?! Because that's the only thing I needed to say.

This generation was entirely creatively bankrupt and many pokmon just plain hideous. And you cannot convince me that a horsey god created these monstrosities. Oh no. The ice cream pokmon are something a five year old human child of below average brain capacity would come up with. But it turns out it was a British adult male. What?

-The metagame got fucked up big time through Hidden Abilities. lolSpeed Boost Blaziken. lolMoxie Salamence. (Although Moxie Salamence isn't so good these days thanks to the incredibly broken Mega Salamence. Intimidate is now better because you can have Salamence debuff your opponent THEN Mega Evolve and proceed to fuck the opponent to death. God help him/her if you get to pull off a Dragon Dance.) lolWeather Wars. It was fine and dandy to have pokmon with Drizzle and Drought back in the Third Generation since it was just for two pokmon designed to be "ubers" and banned from any serious tournament. Those abilities were NEVER meant to be given to others.

-The Fifth Generation introduced no real core mechanic changes to advance the franchise as the previous generations, and even the Sixth Generation with the much welcomed Fairy type (Even if the only good Fairy type pokmon are legendaries. Clefable couldn't keep up with the power creep. of Sun/Moon.) It basically feels like a shitty unofficial expansion for D/P. Except it IS official. Well fuck.....

-Oh, but it did introduce something we're still suffering from (other than the Unova pokmon): the cancerous new EXP mechanics. Sun/Moon introducing Hyper Training was a great step forward. But..... fucking B/W EXP mechanics making a return and the level requirement of level 100 meant we didn't even fucking get to use it. Joy.

-The story is fucking Final Fantasy levels of awful (Read: The lowest level. Below fanfiction tier.) and anyone who thinks it's actually good has nothing but my venomous contempt.

Did you play (Ultra) Sun/Moon and hate Lillie? Well guess what? There's two human characters in the franchise that are worse than Lillie: N and Ghetsis. (And you have to suck REALLY hard to be a worse character than a fucking waifubait loli.) And guess which game gave us these fucking Final Fantasy villains in my fucking Pokmon?

N is a wretched failure. He fails to tackle the ethical issue of the Pokmon franchise in any meaningful way. He basically treats you like a Nazi for being a pokmon trainer. Then he follows up his sanctimonious speeches by..... challenging you to a pokmon battle.

He commits the very crime he rails against. And since he's a shitty moronic NPC trainer, he sucks at it and only ends up getting his pokmon buddies hurt. HE'S the one abusing pokmon!

And then there's Ghetsis..... he's cartoonishly evil. Kinda like Garon from Fire Emblem: Fates. (They both raise children to be their mentally deficient pawns and are obsessed with dragons with the power over one form of H20 or another~.) But even worse.

But that's not what makes him a FF tier villain. Oh no. It's his completely shitty, insane, and idiotic plan:

If he's the only trainer with pokmon in Unova, he will rule Unova!!11!!11!!11!

Yeah..... no. That's like "If I'm the only one with guns, I rule Camelot!" But even worse.

You know guns exist in Pokmon, right? That's why there's references to guns and bullets with attacks like Water Gun, Bullet Seed, Bullet Punch, etc.

Second..... a trainer from somewhere else can just stroll along and destroy his shitty team. Especially if there's Fairy type attacks involved. His stupid cartoon dragon with sock puppet heads is going to die.

Good god..... even Maxie's plan to make Earth one huge desert made more fucking sense than this.

-And thanks to B/W's shifted focus to more story in Pokmon, we've had to suffer through Lillie's Cutscene Hell. It's all B/W's fault Game Freak thought it would be a good idea for endless cutscenes of a little girl and her mommy issues to be the focus of Sun/Moon and not your personal journey as a pokmon trainer or even the Ultra Beasts + Necrozma which actually are pretty cool and interesting. (Except Stakataka, that's some Fifth Generation level design right there.)

-The new animated sprites were pixelated and awful. Especially for most of the older pokmon where they completely half-assed the animations because they weren't expected to be seen.

-I cannot emphasize enough in the words of the English language how completely and utterly stupid, uncreative, and awful in every way the FUCKING ICE CREAM POKMON are.

So yeah..... Pokmon Black/White may just very well be the worst game(s) of all time.

B2/W2 were also completely unnecessary and the only reason people care about them is because of all the older Gym Leaders/Elite Four. So what? They half-assed their sprites. Flannery and Candice have the same base. Also, they're NPCs with little to no real fleshed out characterization that are associated with some pokmon you steamroll along the way to your quest to..... get the E4 shit out of the way so you can get full access to all the pokmon you want to catch and raise for your competitive team.
