The recommended list is glock 17, 19, 43, m&p, xd/xdm

I can technically carry my Springfield xd-s but they told me I should use that as my secondary

I have smaller hands so I was thinking a 17 or 19

But in reality I can get anything as long as it's black, blued, grey, tan, steel

9mm or 45

Single or double stack

And my brain is shot from the day but it can be like a glock or one with a hammer

G17. 9mm is more than enough for that purpose and you carry enough ammo to handle any task. If you could have used a vp9 I would say that but g17 is solid

Actually mid class they said the vp9 is no longer allowed. I think there was some kind of recall

of that list id personally go M&P. controls are not as simple as a glock, but its just as reliable, shoots just as well and has a better trigger with the benefit of feeling better in the hand.

They dont provide you a service weapon?! Thats ridiculous! All officers should have the same gun, so that clips and ammo can be used among other officers in an emergency.

I have no clue honestly. It was on the list of approved today and then midway through the PowerPoint someone said they're not allowed anymore

Glock 19...like a 17, but more compact. I personally find its not a good idea to use a .45 as a primary unless it holds more than 8 rounds, which would mean a Glock 21, HK USP, or another large pistol that uses double stacked mags.

Anyway, youre going to want a 40 caliber. 9mm is ok for personal self defense, but for a service weapon you need something that will put some meth head down immediately.

9mm with hollow point will do plenty of damage.

I use a Walther P99 in 9mm as my service weapon, wish I could use my H&K USP Tactical .45 though.

Sig, Beretta, Springfield, H&K, Walther, M&P, and Colt are all good brands to look at for a service weapon.

I am personally not a fan of Glock which is why I do not mention them but they decent guns.

Yeah, its going to hurt like a bitch, and maybe even kill him. But when I shoot someone I want to knock his ass down. Because at that point that motherfucker is trying to kill you. Im not going to pop him with something he can shrug off and die later, he might kill me before then.

To an extent.

If you shoot the motherfucker in the head it doesnt matter. However, officers are trained to shoot center mass. A larger caliber is going to kick harder than a smaller caliber if hit in the same location. In high stress situations aim goes out the window anyway. Its all spray and pray.

This is just advise. You can do whatever the fuck you want. Personally, Im not going to SJW it. Im going in hard. Id rather overkill than do plenty. Your family deserves to see you come home.

I thought the ballistic performance of 40 compared to 9mm was very small. Compared to the 2 extra rounds of 9mm you can hold in the same size mag it seems 9mm would be better.

Glocks have their reputation for a reason, but the 43 is a bit small for a primary weapon. The 19 and 17 are both great choices assuming you swap out the plastic sights they have a tendency to fall off.

The M&P 2.0 is pretty good out of the box, but they don't tend to hold up as well long term as other options. They are still a viable option.

Everything in in the XD series is garbage. Their butter smooth slide tricks people into thinking they are quality. They work fine for range toys but not for carry guns. The grip safety has a tendency to break and are sensitive to dirt and debris.

My personal carry gun is the CZ P10c. The only negative I have come across is the magazine release can be difficult to press with a fully loaded magazine in it.

As you may notice every gun I listed is striker fired. The firing mechanism is completely sealed in them except for the XD so dirt has a hard time causing a malfunction.

One last thing, 9mm>.357 Sig>.45>>>>>>>>>>>>>.40

I think having a large caliber revolver for a service gun is about the worst choice you could make. Even as a backup I would be hesitant. I would go with a 38 special ankle gun over a 44

Are cops really allowed to use hollow points? That's kinda messed up. Should be FMJ only like military ROE

I think they don't want to risk the overpenetration. Every place is different. Detroit used to ban hollow points, now they use them. There is also talk of moving over to some kind of frangible round.

I actually didn't think about the penetration part. That makes sense. RIP bad guys

My first pistol was an XD9. I loved it and won't ever part ways with it. I never understood the hate. Then after getting more into shooting and trying different handguns, my love for it is only based on it being sentimental. It isn't the worst out there by any means but I'm just not too crazy about it.

Oh And 10mm>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>9mm>.357 Sig>.45>>>>>>>>>>>>>.40 ;)

As I said, the XD is fine on the range, smooth action, accurate, good trigger. Their biggest flaw is the firing pin witness hole in the striker plate. It allows dirt to get in to the slide. As a every duty gun it is prone to failure.

And a "properly" loaded 10mm exceeds the safety factor for most firearms. All of the factory ammo you can buy is loaded to the same pressure as .40. You can get more kenetic energy with a 9mm +p+.
