Final Fantasy - I watched my cousin play a lot of 7 but 8 was the first I had
Pokemon - Blue
Tales - Phantasia
Persona - 3 Portable
SMT - Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei 1
Dragon Quest - I owned 1 but the battery didn't work (handed down from a cousin) so I only ever played it for like ten minutes. First I really played was 4
Fire Emblem* - Sacred Stones/FE8
JRPG not listed here - okay so technically I think the answer would be the Japanese-developed port of Ultima Exodus for NES but that doesn't really count. Real answer is likely Breath of Fire IV

boss fight you thought was hard - It's not even really a boss fight though it is mandatory, but in DQ4 early chapter 5 when you go to that cave with Maya and Meena(Mara and Nara) and monsters pretend to be them and then you have to fight them, that was a tough fight to do solo without some grinding
JRPG you gave up on...
because it was bad - Tales of Phantasia and I have never touched the series since
for another reason - Legend of Legaia, pretty sure I or my brother saved in a place you couldn't leave before beating the boss, and couldn't buy more healing either. Though we were also dumb so it may have been escapable in some way
full party - I think I rolled with Hero/Ragnar/Alena/Meena(Nara) in DQ4 the first time, though with that party I definitely would have needed to swap people now and then
hated character - He was fine in his own chapter but once the AI took over for him Kiryl(Cristo) was terrible for well-documented reasons
loved character - Alena the punching princess was probably the first subversion of damsel in distress stuff I came across in medieval fantasy
"WOW" moment (battle/gameplay) - Solving the puzzles of Ultimecia's Castle and re-earning all your abilities
"WOW" moment (story) - Chrono Trigger - I think I go back and forth between either Lavos killing Crono, or Crono being resurrected. You might notice from my responses that I skipped from NES to PS1 and the story of CT remained unspoiled for me in that time. This was a good surprise.

boss fight you thought was hard - I can't remember their names in the original translation but the PSP version of Star Ocean 2 renamed them Michael and Haniel. That fight is probably the longest I've ever been stuck on anything in a video game ever.
