When I was in the army I sat through a sexual harassent/assault prevention class. The lady giving the brief said we should take complaints 100 precent seriously when they come through and to believe what the woman said.

A guy stood up and said a story of a time while deployed to Afghanistan where a woman who was attached to a special forces team claimed a special forces operator sexually assaulted her. That operator lost his clearance and got kicked out of special forces regiment. But the woman lied about it because the guy refused to sleep with her.

Lady giving the brief said that story didn't matter and that you should believe the woman if she accuses someone of assault/harassment.

That is quite odd and the opposite of what I was reading about this morning. In fact, people were using what the military does with sexual harassment as an example in this Matt Lauer case.

I saw on Reddit a few military members were saying that they will also sit on investigations for years or even decades until they have the evidence to take action and that isn't just verbal accusation.

That briefing was sometime in 2012. I only know how they've been seen in the special operations community. There is definitely an investigation period that takes time. The issue is that when an accusation happens and that person has a clearance, their clearance is revoked. You can't work in the special operation community without one, so you are essentially fired and have to go some where else. Even if the allegations were to come up false and that the person lied, it doesn't change the impact that it had on your career.

He said the allegation against Mr. Lauer represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our companys standards. As a result, weve decided to terminate his employment.

While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years hes been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident, Mr. Lack said.

Why is it that it's normally the same users coming out of the wood work to proclaim that the woman's word is false and that she's just trying to ruin some dude's career, and doubling down by claiming it will hurt real sexual harrasment claims...?
Like, is every woman in the world out to get every man?
And it's not like it's a "he put the moves on me and I want him fired," but more of a "I asked him to stop and he didn't."

There is a clear cut fucking difference.

I highly doubt they would terminate a guy like Matt Lauer without doing their homework. This was a guy they were paying 20 million dollars a year.

Just because the specifics about the allegations weren't described in the memo doesn't mean they don't exist. I suspect we'll find out in the coming days/weeks.

Here comes the hammer
http://variety.com/2017/biz/news/matt-lauer-accused-sexual-harassment-multiple-women-1202625959/

As the co-host of NBCs Today, Matt Lauer once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. It included an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her, which left her mortified.

On another day, he summoned a different female employee to his office, and then dropped his pants, showing her his penis. After the employee declined to do anything, visibly shaken, he reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act.

...

These accounts of Lauers behavior at NBC are the result of a two-month investigation by Variety, with dozens of interviews with current and former staffers. Variety has talked to three women who identified themselves as victims of sexual harassment by Lauer, and their stories have been corroborated by friends or colleagues that they told at the time. They have asked for now to remain unnamed, fearing professional repercussions.

On Wednesday, NBC announced that Lauer was fired from Today. It was a stunning move for a co-host who was widely considered the crown jewel of the networks news division, with a $25 million annual salary. The cause of his dismissal, according to sources, was a detailed complaint from another current NBC employee about inappropriate sexual conduct from Lauer that started on a trip at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and continued for several months.

The employee met with human resources at NBC on Monday night. In a statement, NBC News Chairman Andy Lack called this the first complaint about his behavior in over 20 years and acknowledged that it may not be the last: We were also presented with reason to believe that this may not have been an isolated incident, Lack said.

Several women told Variety they complained to executives at the network about Lauers behavior, which fell on deaf ears given the lucrative advertising surrounding Today. NBC declined to comment. For most of Lauers tenture at Today, the morning news show was No. 1 in the ratings, and executives were eager to keep him happy.

Insiders say that NBC was forced to act quickly after this weeks complaint, given the severity of the accusations and the national dialogue around sexual harassment that has ended the careers of Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K. and other prominent men. Now, against a series of questions about the future of Today, a troubling portrait has emerged of Lauer. In front of the camera, for more than two decades, Lauer had positioned himself as Americas squeaky-clean dad. But behind the scenes, Lauer was a different person.

Despite being married, Lauer was fixated on women, especially their bodies and looks, according to more than 10 accounts from current and former employees. He was known for making lewd comments verbally or over text messages. He once said made a suggestive reference to a colleagues performance in bed and compared it to how she was able to complete her job, according to witnesses to the exchange. For Lauer, work and sex were intertwined.

There were a lot of consensual relationships, but thats still a problem because of the power he held, says a former producer who knew first-hand of these encounters. He couldnt sleep around town with celebrities or on the road with random people, because hes Matt Lauer and hes married. So hed have to do it within his stable, where he exerted power, and he knew people wouldnt ever complain.
...
According to multiple accounts, independently corroborated by Variety, Lauer would invite women employed by NBC late at night to his hotel room while covering the Olympics in various cities over the years. He later told colleagues how his wife had accompanied him to the London Olympics because she didnt trust him to travel alone.

There's still more
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/29/business/media/nbc-matt-lauer.html
In 2001, the woman said, Mr. Lauer, who is married, asked her to his office to discuss a story during a workday. When she sat down, she said, he locked the door, which he could do by pressing a button while sitting at his desk. (People who worked at NBC said the button was a regular security measure installed for high-profile employees.)

The woman said Mr. Lauer asked her to unbutton her blouse, which she did. She said the anchor then stepped out from behind his desk, pulled down her pants, bent her over a chair and had intercourse with her. At some point, she said, she passed out with her pants pulled halfway down. She woke up on the floor of his office, and Mr. Lauer had his assistant take her to a nurse.

The woman told The Times that Mr. Lauer never made an advance toward her again and never mentioned what occurred in his office. She said she did not report the episode to NBC at the time because she believed she should have done more to stop Mr. Lauer. She left the network about a year later.

On Wednesday, the episode in Mr. Lauers office was reported to NBC News after the woman told her then-supervisor, who still works at the network. The woman said an NBC human resources representative had since contacted her.

The woman, who was in her early 40s at the time, told her then-husband about the encounter, which The Times confirmed with him in a phone call. The couple was separated at the time, and later divorced. She also described it to a friend five years ago, which the friend confirmed to The Times.
