Altima would be 12k after discounts and trade. It's brand new, SV model with factory warranty, with option to extend it out to 7 years bumper to bumper. Which I like, since I still don't trust CVT's.

The Charger is a 2015, with 25k miles. After trade in, I'm looking at around 11, possibly 10k. It's an SXT, so nothing too special, but would be a more enjoyable drive than the Altima.

Altima has nice safety tech that the Charger doesn't, but the Charger has more power and a more traditional transmission. And being a few years old means parts are available outside the dealership.

I like both, but don't like the Nissan's anemic 4cyl engine, and I really don't like that the Dodge is being sold as-is, and any problems are going to be out of pocket.

Dunno which way to go on this one. I need something with tons of legroom, and I don't want a truck or SUV. These two so far have met my needs, and I'm wondering which way to go.

Charger

SXT kinda sucks though...that's the RWD V6, right? Only way I'd get the V6 Charger is if it was the AWD version.

Still looks fucking badass though.

There is an R/T of the same year on the lot, but with 10k more miles and would be about 2 grand more than the Altima. Still as-is however, and I'm pretty sure my insurance would love to adjust my payments accordingly.

But I'm just conflicted. Logic says to get the brand new, extended warranty sensible sedan. But my heart says to hell with all that and get a funner Charger. R/T would be tops, but that's a check my ass just can't cash right now.

No one gives a shit about standard these days. Unless you are getting a truck it really is not going to improve anything because the new automatic transmissions are just as good.

But for what it's worth, the 2017 Altima I'm looking at has a better reliability record than the 2015 Charger did during it's own year. According to JD Power at least.

Which is another point I want to make. The Altima will have a warranty. The Charger will not. And as nice as it is, an Altima on the road will always look better to me than a Charger in the repair garage.

The new Optima looks nice. Might check out the S model tomorrow.

Kinda sucks they don't get remote start though. Or push button start. I'd have to move up to an EX with leather for 4 grand more.

Does come with a monster 10 year/100k mille powertrain warranty though.

The '15 Sentra I'm using as trade has served me well, though I bought it brand new and only has 14k miles. But yeah, it's why I was looking into an extended warranty with the Nissan.

Especially since the JD Power review of the 2017 Altima didn't instill a lot of confidence.

The 2017/18 Optimas seem much more solid though. I can live without remote start and push button start. Nicer screen too.

Yeah, I'm digging the Optima.

S model, new for next year. I lose the remote start the other two have but get a far better warranty, and more cold weather options, like defrosting side mirrors, and vents for the rear windshield.

288/mo for 5 years, but I also have to put down 1200 ontop of the car I'm trading to do it.

Can't you just get a remote starter put in later anyway? Or does something with the technology not allow it

How long do you want to keep it and do you drive on the highway more, or in town more? Is gas an issue?

TBH, I've never owned a Nissan, but everybody in my family who's owned domestic vehicles said they were junk and easily broke.

It'd be a separate remote, but I could in theory. But I'm trying to thin out my keys, not add remotes.

It's not a huge deal breaker though. It was just a nice extra feature.

During the summer it gets dusty around here, so I'm leaning towards the gray. Just not a fan of how light a color the rims are.

My dad has a white one, I can't remember the color name but it's got that "sunshine on snow" effect and costs more than just the plain white Optimas. Looks really nice.

I owned a 2008 Nissan Maxima that I gave to my mom when I finished school. I bought it with 40,000 miles and changed the CVT fluid once at the dealership because they were extending the warranty to 120,000 miles when you did that back then. The car now has about 180,000 miles. The transmission has been rock solid. Obviously, my experience is anecdotal at best.

I tried to look at a challenger once. My local dodge dealers are slimy. No way would I ever buy anything from them.
