not sure why I bother, but whatever

people are more likely to respond to disagreeable things that they have been hearing their entire life, like "America is the best country in the world." this is very easily shut down by discussing its history of colonialism, discrimination, and slavery. he ruined is experiment by spouting nationalistic, blindly patriotic, rhetoric.

some dude waving an ISIS flag is clearly just being a contrarian. that person is also less likely to be argued with because overall, people are less familiar with it. it's not that people are supporting ISIS by not confronting him, it's that they are actually more suspicious of him and less prepared to argue with him.

Why don't you just move over here since you care about this country so much.

Because your country is really far below mine, as far as quality of life is concerned.

I live among my fellow Bulgarian people with whom I share a common blood, history and understanding of the world, you live among foreigners upon foreigners, you encounter 100 people on the street and 97 different sets of ideals.

I do not need to become a slave for life in order to finish university and buy a house, you have no other choice.

My country has no true power, nor is it pretended that it has any. Yours has no true power - because it is bought and paid for, and entirely controlled by central banking and global corporations, but is pretended to be the most powerful nation in the world.

Well, there's worse. There's Sweden, Germany, the UK... There's still hope for the US, thanks to Trump.

Anyway, to me, the US is important because - mostly due to inertia now - it is looked up to by the Western world as a whole. And Western civilisation is an important thing to conserve.

No matter how much you try to convince yourself that you are "enlightened," that will not change the facts. Any progress humanity has ever achieved has been due to cultural, collective intelligence, not individual genius.

Also, that was all editing.

There are thousands of videos of Berkeley students acting like idiots. It stops being editing magic after awhile. They legitimately hate this country.

I've been on the Berkeley campus a few times, and had some friends who went there.

It's a strange place for sure. Like...a physics prof I hung out with to discussed needing to get an ethics waiver to experiment on a dead fly.

But I wouldn't describe the people I met as hating America. Hating pro-military pro-imperialism stances, sure. Berkeley is very, very anti-war and anti-military-industrial complex. (And honestly I suspect you agree with them on these stances).

Where you probably see things differently is that they see someone waving an American flag, and shouting "I fought for your freedom" and think "this guy is pro military; I'm going to steer clear of him".

I have friends who visited Syria prior to the Arab spring and apparently it was a pretty amazing place with fairly progressive values (for the middle east). They had really modern society sitting on top of some of the most interesting history. If nothing else their country being torn apart is made sadder by the fact that they fell from a pretty high point.

lmao, imagine actually believing this. We have access to every pointless life pleasure that people in the US do. What I am saying, of course, is that it's other things that truly matter. It's not about the house itself, it's about becoming a slave to buy one. If you can't understand the difference, then we are on entirely different planes here.
