I started before 18. Didn't fully understand the concept of addiction and thought it somehow wouldn't apply to me.

My cigarette intake got progressively worse over the course of a year or two. 1-5 a week, 1 pack a week, 3 packs a week, etc.

I drink quite frequently, too, which makes quitting even harder. Nothing like a cigarette with a glass of red after you've already had a few glasses on a cool, breezy summer evening. Is it worth my life though? I should probably look into that more.

i like the first answer, i dislike smoking myself. plus it will aggravate my asthma that occasionally flares up on colds (tend to get slightly more ill than normal when it happens). in july i had a cough that wouldn't go away for an entire month.

otherwise i grew out of the asthma, i don't cough anymore.

And if you are an older guy now, you'll have the wherewithal not to get addicted. Plus it actually sucks as a drug. It's there with alcohol and DPH as the worst drugs I've tried.

I've been trying to quit off and on for years. I've been smoking since 2001.

I've been smoking since 2003. Its tough quitting.

Cut back to smoking 1 or 2 at the end of the day. Eventually the cravings will start to go subside, which will make completely quiting much easier. That's what I did.

Alcohol is an acquired taste. I've been drinking for like 2 years now and I still can't do any of the really hard stuff.

we need more people to smoke so that tobacco company will get more money from the customers. the not trying to smoke because it's bad attitudes is just millennial thing. nobody ever talk about how bad smoking before they came along. please smoke before you think.

I smoked one once, threw out the pack after. Had a week's worth of addiction to deal with. I have a predisposition to cigarette addiction. I won't ever smoke one again.

I've probably tried cigarettes about 5 times, but only when drunk. Always hated the taste and smell when I woke up though. Main reason I never got into them was that they cost way too fucking much.

Cigars/blunts are much better, but I'll only have them on very rare occasions. Even then, the taste and smell can be an issue after a while.

never tried, never felt the urge. I probably would have if someone asked me to, but whenever people offered it was just like "do you smoke?" and when I say no, it ends there

I'm a former smoker and starting it up was one of the worst life choices I made. I started off just having one while I walked to my job, and that turned into having one on the way back. Before I knew it I was smoking a pack a day until I had to go under the knife (not from smoking) and once I was up and moving around again the cravings were not there anymore so it was easy to quit. But I had smoked over 10 years until that happened.

I used to be a smoker. Never a pack a day guy, but I bought about a pack a week at one point. I quit when I was 19ish, though, mostly because my girlfriend (now-wife) hated it. Still smoke the occasional cigar, though.

I'm glad to say that I never have.

I have smoked cigars a few times for fun though.

I smoke a pack roughly every two days. No plans or desire to stop.
