I have seen several pics like that on facebook every now and then but I've never taken the time to actually research and make sure it's actually true. It doesn't sound like something that would be true though.

Going to operate under the assumption that this is actually true even though it's the first I've heard it and am pretty sure it isn't true

A.) What if I entered my pin already? I mean, it's the second thing you do after swiping, right?

B.) As mentioned above, what if said pin is 4554? It's the same forwards and backwards.

Honestly, point B is really the more important one.

You'd think the best way to make it public knowledge is for the banks to tell everyone about it themselves, not posting it on a social media platform half-full of questionable claims and chinese whispers.

Real talk though what do those people even gain by spreading such dumb shit around? I mean, it's not like they profit or anything...

Seems like a huge waste of time

Not saying this is true but I thought your pin couldn't have the same number back to back? I could be confusing that with something else though.

the way this works is you typically have two "passwords" a real password and a fake "under duress" password.

we encrypt our computers at work where if we had a gun to our head we could "unencrypt" our PCs with a fake password and it would look like a mostly fresh install.

of course, the ATM picture is bullshit, but you could have a second "under duress" pin that intentionally alerted the police, the issue is people likely wouldn't remember it or would forget it making it pointless.

No it's not mandatory. Encryption of drives is mandatory but not the hidden volume part.

If Bruce got held up at an atm I imagine he'd give the robber $500 and say if he wants more to come interview at Wayne Enterprise.

That's fucking stupid. It'd be stuck in the slot? So the robber will immediately know that you essentially hit the "alarm"? Great so now he can shoot you in the head and run off.

Where the hell do you work that you can have a gun to your head?

Although I guess I'm spoiled regarding safety. New Jersey is pretty strict on gun laws and there Is a huge line of sheriffs officers armed with guns and metal detectors on both entrances, plus the other entrance is locked to employee ID cards only, by the time they try to grab one the alarm will be sounded and the place will be locked down and surrounded by police and sheriffs officers.

You'd pretty much need like 20 people with good aim to even get to the rest of the building

I have a laptop that I have to take home in case of emergency late night outages. Someone could in theory carjack and kidnap me.

I mean I don't think my information is worth that much money to go to that level of crime over but you never know.
