Not gonna lie... It's like the perfect gym for me. Basically, it's starting to get cold out and I'll need a place to run in the winter.

Pros:
1) There's like 40 treadmills. 40! And roughly that many ellipticals, but I prefer running.
2) It has free weights well above the weight I'm likely ever going to need. Don't foresee lil ol me needing dumbbells heavier than 75lbs.
3) Their "30 minute circuit" seems decent enough for a quick workout, if not particularly fine tuned.
4) It's so much cheaper than any other gym in the area... Like nearly 1/4 of the price.

Cons:
1) No squat racks, only smith machines. But I knew that going in, and hardly a deal breaker.
2) That's it really? Offering pizza and bagels each month seems weird, along with the giant container of tootsie rolls on the counter, but whatever.

I legit might get one as well. Only ten bucks a month. I really wanna check it out.

Only 75 lbs dumbells is kinda a deal breaker. And no squat rack? How will I dead left? (I hate smith machines)

Yeah, but they charge an arm and a leg to use it. They have two different membership levels. The "normal" level that includes the gym and classes for $10/month and the "black card" level that also includes the hydromassage, chair massage, tanning booths, and some pseudoscience energizer machine that looked like a spray on tanning booth, for $22/month.

I deemed the massager to not be worth more than doubling the cost.

My wife has the premium membership or whatever you call it. We go together and I'm her "guest." $19.99/mo that way. We really enjoy it.

Not an "anti-animal cruelty" mention, or preaching vegan shit down anyone's throat, but after switching to a vegan diet (and juicing every day) less than a month ago, we both noticed a huge difference in our energy levels. I ran 6 miles in 56 minutes with no training compared to anything past this last month, and I was barely able to run 3 miles without getting tired or going out of breath.

Hope that didn't contribute to the "if someone's vegan, you're definitely gonna fucking hear about it" memes/jokes. Just sharing gym stories

$5 signup fee, $40 yearly fee, $10/month membership fee.

So $165/year or $13.75/month

Correct. The only "barbells" they have are attached to smith machines. And I think my location only has the one.

mirage_004 posted...

Yup.

This gym really does cater to a different clientele than most gyms. I won't ever need dumbbells that weigh more than that. I'm 140lbs, and I don't plan on lifting more than I weigh anytime soon, so this isn't a drawback for me. For many people, the gym just doesn't suit what they need, and that's definitely fine, but I just need a place to run when it's 40 below out, and this is perfect and dirt cheap to boot.

I'm honestly not sure if you're aware of the double connotation, but when people are talking about gyms, "juicing" means taking steroids. So under that context, your post was hilarious.

Real. Though that said, I've read online that most people have never actually seen theirs go off in their gym.

Oh, I'm aware of how dirt cheap this membership is. The last gym I went to charged me closer to 50/month. It is most definitely a better gym, but at nearly 4x the cost it better damn well be better.

As for not wanting to pay the extra 12/month at PF, I just don't think the hydromassage (the only thing I'd use) is worth basically any money.

This is about how much I am paying at my current gym, Charter Fitness. I used to go to a greasy, public fitness club, meaning that it was funded by local taxes. I was paying $28/month for an old, rusted weight room, a dozen aerobics machines total.

Moved to a new town that has a Charter Fitness. $13-14/month gets me a s*** ton of aerobics machines and massive strength training section. Absolute bargain.

Take the barbell out and do them just in front of the rack so the rack can still be used

Somewhere on the ground where there is space. I used to go to one of the top bodybuilding gyms in my country and that had more barbells than racks, platforms and benches combined. They were in a vertical barbell holder. And if all the platforms where used I could always deadlift somewhere.

It's called pavlonian conditioning so people keep coming back.

Basically if you start associating gyms with something sweet like candy as a reward (or pizza/bagels) you'll be more inclined to go back. Same reason doctors/dentists have that shit for kids.

Also, their whole thing is being judgment free/being ok with yourself/whatever, and eating with or around other people subconsciously makes you more comfortable around them. Y'know, the whole "breaking bread" thing.

I don't remember the whole gist of it, but I did a research paper on how planet fitness was manipulating people for business rather than helping people w/ their physical health for my psych class that was sorta an intro to behavioral and cognitive psych in uni.

I doubt anyone's interested so I'm not going to go any further.

dumbell deadlifts with 75 pounders. Do a ton of reps and a very slow eccentric phase. It's far from ideal, but beats nothing.
