I'd prefer if I had the penny for the chance it could be a neat penny in some way, plus i dont like losing money.

When I was living in Moldova they usually didn't give change at all. Even though it existed. And when the cashier would give change most people wouldn't even take it lol. I took it just for fun.

I guarantee you if you are one penny off at a store or gas station or fast food place they will still give you your stuff

often times if my change comes up less than 5 cents i tell them to keep it anyways. as alot convenient stores where I used to live had these trays they'd put spare change like that in in case a customer was short just a handful of change. so basically but letting them keep it you where helping out someone else down the road

depends on the person. and how strict the managers are on all the money being there. I mean hell when I was a teen I met a woman once who let me have everything for free cause I forgot my wallet. most wouldn't go that far.and on the opposite spectrum there are dicks out there, or they just have a really strict manager and they don't happen to have a penny on them to cover it.

this topic does remind me of when I worked at burger king, this dude apparently paid with a large bill, and naturally they checked to see it wasn't counterfeit. well when he got his change he started holding it up in the light looking at it, and then had the balls to ask for their marker to checks for counterfeits stating "if yall gonna check my money i'm gonna check yalls"

I would like to move to a country that makes sense some day.

i did have something kinda weird happen at taco bell like a month ago. The cashier said because of some special occasion they would have to close early. It was around 10:30 and they close at 2. She said she ran out of pennies and they were almost gonna close so she said, oh i owe you like 2 more cents, sorry about that. So i said ok and drove off. I counted later and it was like 3 cents short.

I've had this happen with 28 cents at a Dunkin Donuts drive through. At this point I have such low expectations for them I'm satisfied if they just get the order right.

This. Plus, having worked in fast food, I know some places issue write ups for a register even as little as 10 cents short so I figure if I decline some pennies here and there it may prevent someone from getting in trouble.

True. They can short change because hey, it is just a penny, but if you short change them you don't get your product because the till won't add up.

I agree pennies are a nuisance and I don't have a problem getting rid of them since nothing costs a penny anymore. That being said I still save and roll them.

I would ask for my penny and then put it in the "take a penny" thing.

I've had a few times where my change might have been like 49 cents only they give me 2 quarters instead. Not really a good idea if management gets on your case about the register not adding up right.

I tell them to put the quarter in the donation jar and tell them to have a nice day.

Because I don't carry coins around.

It's my money, so yes.

If I walked out of the store and spent ten minutes taking a steaming dump on the sidewalk, that would be more worth my time than asking for the penny.

I spent many years working at a cash station, and every time we cashed out we were a couple bucks ahead because of all the people that say "keep the change". Letting someone have it when they were a couple cents short literally never mattered.

If your cashier doesn't let you get away with it, it means they are actually keeping the change and they have no wiggle room on the balance sheet.

No, they round up or down to the nearest five cent. Most stores here explicitly state so. Only Aldi asks and gives 1 and 2 eurocents.
