With the numbers getting ever higher I feel like they may ditch the numbers eventually though.

Hell they already have so many spin offs and sequels it's not like the numbers really matter anymore.

Hard to say, we do know that other Final Fantasy games will eventually be made, but whether or not we will be seeing main number entries is an entire different matter, considering that technically it took FFXV ten years after it's announcement to be released (and even then the game production apparently only started about 4 years ago), FFXIV had some major problems that SE made a second version of the game and FFXIII had also some behind the scenes issues as well if I recall. And let's not forget that apparently SE also attempted to give FFX a third game (although with how the audio drama and book were ill received by the fanbase as a whole, that may not happen any time soon.).

Agree, I feel it's ended. I don't know how they can spend so long on these newer games and they end up so badly.

There were only 4 years (97-01) between all of FF7, 8, 9, X and look at the quality of those games compared to 13 and 15..

LOL of course this site thinks the series will never die.

I don't think big scale RPGs are going to be profitable for much longer because the time to profit ratio is not there compared to the other crap that gets thrown out on a yearly basis, and all the DLC the other genres are able to pump out. I'm predicting a shift to the episodic format like the FFVII remake.

THEN the series will die.

I think the world will end before the Final Fantasy's stop.
But I can't see them ever getting my interest back in the series.

15 can't really be used as a standard for judgment since it was made from salvaged xiii versus assets.

The last Final Fantasy game was X-2. Every game after the Square/Enix merger isn't a "real" final fantasy game. Squaresoft was a company no longer exists and hasn't existed for over a decade.
