https://nanowrimo.org/about

It's basically a "holiday" where people try to put together a 50,000 word novella in 30 days. Bringing it up now because I was wondering if any of yall wanted to get in on the action.

Anyone who finishes their novel should share it with CE. >_>

I low-key want to be a writer but for some reason I stopped writing at some point and never really started back up. I assume it coincided with not reading as much as I used to, I need to read more

Issue is so many people write so much shit nowadays so that actual chance of a career there is equivalent to moving to Hollywood to be an actor

I mean the spirit of the thing is to just spend November writing. Even after you finish, you could spend the month just editing and rewriting. Heck, some people don't even write books. >_>

Give it a try! Writing is super fun. I used to do a lot of fan fiction and original fiction in jr high, but yeah, I stopped reading and stopped writing about the same time. Started back up a few years ago though. It's really satisfying.

Yeah that about sums it up

Still only a junior in hs though, I would read more but I also want to read manga and watch anime but since I attend a boarding school now I have to balance that with actually having friends and a large homework work load

I've started writing again and am working on a sci-fi series but I really can't seem to complete anything. I will create boundaries and try to limit myself but somehow end up blowing past them. It's not really a problem with verbosity or perfectionism, or anything else negative, because it has really helped to add depth to the universe I'm creating. Everything I've written has a place and a purpose, as well as flows nicely. I'm happy with the work but can't stop expanding on everything. One idea leads to another and what started out as an opening paragraph has instead become a small book itself. It's just getting out of control on the level of sheer quantity and moves the finish line further and further away, which has become a bit discouraging.

I may actually take this up as a way to practice implementing and respecting limits. I have several other ideas that I haven't really gotten into because of the focus on my passion project. I'm not as invested in them, so maybe putting that on the back burner to crank one of those out will help. I wrote out a good chunk of my next favorite story on a whim while I was holed up in a hospital with a relative, so I think I could probably get one of the other ones done in a month. Funny how the less I care about the work the better I am at getting it done lol.

Does that make any sense? It's late and I'm tired, so I may be rambling lol.
