I'm watching it and think it's just great.

It's exactly what intelligent discussion looks like,

I'm not entirely sure of the implication of this question. I don't think Joe is an intellectual slouch if that is the implication, but no, it is so far just the other two talking most of the time, though it does become apparent that Peterson is a bit more aggressive in speaking up, Weinstein has a lot of things to say too but he feels a bit more "waiting his turn" in the communication. It's probably like 50/30/20 peterson/weinstein/rogan talking.

But I'm only 1 hour in.

Rogan has the tendency to derail conversations and go off on tangents. Glad to hear he doesn't in this episode.

Is it bad I automatically think less of a person for listening to the Joe Rogan podcast?

I listen more for the guest rather than Joe himself. If the guest is good i'll tune in, if not i'll skip it.

I'd be curious where this comes from?

Joe Rogan is somebody I loathed 20 years ago, or at least I assumed I did.

I genuinely have 0 idea what your negative expectation would be about a person if your hear that they listen to the Joe Rogan podcast. Please do tell me.

He is just a good interviewer of smart people, and seldom are smart people given a good context to talk for greatly prolonged times.

When he has his old buddies who talk about farts and what not of course I have no interest in that, but I think Joe's real strength is his willingness to listen and his willingness to be quiet.

I haven't noticed that too severely. He had this 3rd wheel guy on one episode who was just the worst at that.

Can you think of specific instances where that occurred badly?

Badly is subjective. There was one Peterson podcast where the Holocaust came up as an exaple of a larger idea and Joe started going off on Zyklon B when it had zero relevance to the conversation or the idea being put forth. Instances like that can hold up the flow of the guest sometimes and sidetrack what they were trying to say.

Again I love the JRE 90% of the time im not trying to bash the show because of those small missteps. It'd be hard to stay completely on track for 3 hours at a time.

The Joe Rogan listeners I know are weed smoking unemployed "centrists" who live with their mothers. The sort who feel they're above reading serious academic literature but will listen to 3 hours of Joe Rogan talking to some scholar and act informed.

JRE was my first go-to podcast. Been like 5 years for me now. No longer my go-to, but still in my top 5 listened to.

I didn't care for him until the podcast, tbh. He often times has some pretty good guest.

What elements of the culture lead us to silencing speech, where the different political extremes come from, what evolutionary basis prompts those things, what is the nature of truth (though that is ultimately more linguistic than anything), hitler, religion, lots of stuff

It wasn't attempting to be witty, you are sounding so much like what people satirizing your position would sound like that I can no longer tell if you are sincere.

Did Hexagon have a different username? Is this like stacks or something I'm talking to?

Joe is the "average guy" who has insightful conversations with mostly educated people, and it enables the average person to easily follow the conversation and learn something from it. even if it's just a perspective they've never considered. Joe's guest are pretty diverse. from Immortal Technique to Ben Shapiro.

if you're at work, it's great to listen to at times.

Yeah he really isn't. He has libertarian left views for the most part. He just acknowledges how ridiculous the left has become and people assume he's right-winged.
