by depicting her in a hijab...

http://metro.co.uk/2017/08/14/tfl-pulls-child-safety-campaign-that-showed-young-girl-in-hijab-6852271/

it was quickly called out by Muslim women’s organisations for ‘sexualising’ Razmi, because the hijab is usually only worn after a girl hits puberty.

Gina Khan, an Islamic women’s rights activist, told the Times that the campaign was ‘sexualising a four-year-old girl – it is as simple as that’.

A child in a head scarf is now seen as sexual? I don't think TFL are the ones in the wrong here. If anything is wrong then its accepting 13 year old girls wearing the hijab as being sexualised.

No, I'm pretty sure that wasn't their intention.

Company attempts to include another group. Group points out that ad doesn't attract them and instead goes against what they are. Company realizes mistake, pulls ad.

You think that they put the ad out to purposely offend them, and then when it got pointed out they chickened out?

I see young Muslim girls as young as 4 wearing hijabs here all the time (literally every day, I drive past a Muslim school on the way to my school). Are these people all sexualizing their children?

A fictional cartoon character of unspecified age wearing a hijab = how dare you sexualize a child?

"Thighing" a real live six year old girl as a fifty something year old man before consummating the marriage three years later = A-OK!

Ell oh fucking ell.

Hijabs are not a good thing.

Only the increasing tentacles of religious fervour emenating from the likes of Saudi Arabia etc, has seen the vast uptake in meeting so called modesty requirements.
This new normal must be challenged at every opportunity. It is an affront to progressive values.

didn't their god marry a 6 year old?

It was a pretty common practice back then. In the middle ages in Europe (some time after the prophet came) it was acceptable for 7-year-olds to get married.

I am pretty sure in Europe they waited until the girl was about 12-13 and on her period.

I'm fairly certain their are examples that contradict your theory.

Besides, they just arranged marriages of literal newborns who were married in all but ceremony. But hey, let's shit on shitty Arabic history and whitewash our own shitty history. Yay!

They've been doing that for years (a lot don't care, unfortunately it only takes one to make a fuss).

The fact that people still fall for the word "Islamophobia" which was quite literally created by the Muslim Brotherhood propaganda machine to silence criticism of Islam says it all.

I meant the far left, seems to me you have a problem with Muslims in general, friend.

There are parts of Islam that should rightfully be criticised by the west that don't fit into the western culture of morality.

Introduce them to an openly gay man or let them find out their 16 year old daughter has been dating a boy from a different faith, and they'll show their true colors.

smells like most of you in here would expect women to shave their legs

yet you call the hijab an affront to feminism

lmao

the hijab is an article of religious expression
outside of conservative/ultraconservative Islam, it should not be considered oppressive

is the yarmulke considered oppressive?

now that i've read the rest of the article...

‘It is frustrating to see that every time a Muslim girl or women needs to be represented, she has to be shown covering her head,’ she told Sky News.

‘Why reinforce stereotypes, especially when it comes to children? Most Muslim four-year-old girls do not wear the hijab – those who want to wear it usually do so at puberty with some only adopting it due to parental and peer pressure.’

This seems to be the bigger, more valid complaint

Not surprised at all a tabloid would go with the headline it did

Edit: Also, the way she's using sexualise... she means literally, because to her the hijab is something worn post-puberty, it would signify someone is sexually mature... once again, i'm saying to her. she's not saying we literally will think she's a buxom babe suddenly because of the hijab... she's saying that they're falsely signifying that this is a post-puberty child...

once again, to her
idk how this practice is elsewhere
