Most of the complaints I remember hearing were dumb things like the time he fell off the bicycle or a few times when he would trip over his words.

There were definitely problems but oddly, these are the things I tended to hear most people complain about.

The war encompasses a lot of things: Unjustified extension of US hegemony, to war crimes, manipulation of the facts to garner public support, etc. So when we talk about the Iraq war and subsequent occupation there are several topics in there worth discussing.

I was too young to care about much more than the (to me) pointless war but looking back as an adult I think the tax cuts he did were and are too extreme as I would prefer the government to be financially responsible rather than endlessly grow their debt. I have also always disliked the whole electoral college system since I learned about it in middle school, it just seemed stupid at face value and I still stand by that.

I know its not all his fault, but America faced a hard 2000s. That's almost a fact btw. The 2000s were awful.

Katrina seems a big stand out, along with the patriot act.

With regards to the power of government programs to affect local change, yes. But even those programs need strict oversight and accountability. And bigger government is one thing, but progressivism has always been a bit suspicious of displays of force. It consistently prefers to grow domestic programs over millitary ones.

His greatest downfall was probably the recession, which happened at the tail end of his administration (which many treated as something that he had plenty of time to avert as a result).

Also engaging in the war in Iraq without the payoff he promised didn't help (we caught Saddam Hussein but it was more of a consequence of the mission, not the objective). Made the expense of life and dollar seem empty.

Believe it or not a bigger government does not have to get bigger in every area.

I want strong government regulation of the parts of modern society that have the potential to cause harm to the majority of American people and surveillance being easier to do "legally" is not a part of that despite all the terrorism fear-mongering. Regulation of financial institutions, physical and medical safety protections, infrastructure and building rules, labor and wage protections, food and drug safety tests and many more important societal stabilizers are to me very important and should be put ahead of massive surveillance and programs and legislation.
