Would you ever live in Canada?

Melbourne, Vienna and Vancouver have been named the most LIVEABLE cities in a top 10 list of the Economist Intelligence Unit that doesn't include ANY American city!!

Damascus, a war torn city in Syria was the least liveable city, below both Lagos and Tripoli.

New York, London, Paris and Tokyo were all outside of the top 10 because of "high crime, congestion, and public transport problems"

Several US cities have registered declines from the reports that "stems in part from unrest related to number of deaths of black people at the hands of police officers". Another factor was "protest held in response to President Trump's policies and executive orders".

The 2017 ranking was calculated by assessing 140 cities and giving them a score out of 100 on stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure and culture

Would you ever live in Canada? let's see what people will vote

Well it's a pretty androgynous place for movie production here but good luck finding your own place to stay.

Wait, what? What crime issues does Tokyo have? Plus they have remarkable public transit.

If no US city ranked in the top 10, the rankings are worthless. While I wouldn't necessarily put a US city at #1, clearly one of our many cities would top 10.

Never again. Especially not under Trudeau.

Vancouver livable? Clearly who ever wrote that has never "lived" in Van... its overpriced beyond overpriced. I also hate going to Van and dealing with the very rude people, crap parking and terrible traffic. It's not that great at all. Beaches are meh and the water is not that clean plus super crowded.

My best friend lives there with his GF and wants out as soon as he finds a job in the lower mainland. He pays more for a shoe box apartment ( 1br 1wash ) than I do for a 4br 3wash house in Mission BC.

Van is a joke too me and I will never live there and rarely ever go there.

Dumb article period.

Edit: also health care in Canada sucks. It's not free at all. I pay over $1000 a year ( mandatory) and never use the hospitals. Also even if I did I would be waiting in the emergency for 5 to 10 hours before a doctor would see me. My dad waits those times on average when ever he needs the hospital. I also heard not long ago a few people died while waiting to see a doctor in the emergency. Piss poor medical system it's become.

why? just because you have big or great cities doesn't mean you automatically get top 10, you have to actually outdo almost everyone else.

and I would guess that most likely the reason US is not there is healthcare related.

that said, I live in Calgary, and it doesn't really feel like the 5th best city in the world, but w/e.

also, wasn't it not long ago that Vancouver was supposedly like a rape and violent crime cesspool or something.

Largely because the US is home to so many incredible cities due to its size and diversity. As such, any omission looks suspicious especially given historical rankings.

I've also lived in Calgary and wouldn't even rank it higher than Miami.

yeah, but you're stating your supposed relative greatness without relating it to anything. like saying you should win a science fair because your exhibit is "that good" without actually comparing it to the other exhibits.

that's a little better, but use the actual criteria used in the study

Again, keep in mind that historical ratings against other world cities have existed and US cities have generally rated favorably.

Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada. I'm sure if you can afford to live there it's great but most people are never gonna be there.

I haven't lived in Calgary but I have lived in Alberta, and while it might be a little better when there's money, most Albertans are unfriendly, reclusive, pearl-clutchy people who show their true colours when their only economy (oil) collapses. Living there for four years was an experience for sure, but not one I'd ever want to repeat again. But larger cities are generally slightly less homogenous, so I'm sure it's at least marginally better in Calgary or Edmonton.

Toronto is a lot more doable because of its suburban sprawl, and it's a great place for culture and the arts. It kinda feels like it's trying too hard to be New York City sometimes but it's overall a good place to be.

I'm from Montreal, which has a lot of issues, but it's home to me. I'd like to go back one day.

historical ratings say nothing about the present day state of the world...

I guess you said the Calgary VS Miami thing, but can you otherwise actually say that X US city is better than at least n - 9 of all cities in the world? Or can you say that X US city is stronger in the listed criteria than at least one of the cities on the list?

Yeah... any list where "affordability" isn't taken into account isn't a very good "most livable" list.

While the world can change year to year, it generally doesn't in most places. And if you're getting a massively different result from what everybody else has been doing, odds are your criteria are sketchy and rigged in such a way to specifically favor certain places in order to further an agenda (monetary, social justice, etc).

If Trudeau gets the boot in 2019, the place can still be salvaged. Another four years of his fuckery and the debt and illegals jumping the refugee queue via the US border will have possibly taken their toll.

Vancouver is very liveable... if you make six figures or don't mind living like a borderline-hobo. I live just outside it, and it's nice, but even a 1500sqf townhouse near me is $600k and up. The people three doors down sold their detached house for $1.2M, iirc, and it was one floor. Yeah, great market for starting out in......

My niece was living in Burnaby which is basically Vancouver isn't it? She paid 1200 for a 2 bedroom basement suite. While that's not cheap, I don't think it's that bad.
