So, their attempts to include appealing to Millenials include stuff like fire grills and whatnot, but Millenials don't give a fuck about that.

Then they say, their attempt to go back to the other market includes stuff like catering to "value seekers", which are people who like good deals.

They're gonna be stuck on yester-year's trends even as the current generation has abandoned it either due to necessity or another trend coming along

People used to be all about exorbitant preparation and gimmicky, trendy food items
Then the economy and reality hit and we all realized we can't keep this up

I don't care about if a place appeals to me. I just want good food for a decent price. That's literally it.

If I have ten dollars to drop on a meal, I can drop it on a chain that is decent, and consistent, but otherwise kind of boring. Or I can gamble that ten dollars on something novel and hip from the waffle sandwich shop in the entertainment district for a more engaging atmosphere and potentially better food.

applebees costs as much as my neighborhood ethiopian restaurant, but serves food i can make. eating there is essentially me saying "I am too lazy to cook tonight."

Last time I went to Applebees to have a beer and order a salad to go, I walked in and the girl was like "we close in 20 minutes, sorry".

As a server, I was quite offended. I would never say that to a customer. Plus the shit I was gonna order should have only taken up 10 minutes of their time.

I can see why they are shutting down locations. Applebees sucks.

I would have asked to speak to a manager. What the hell is she standing there for if they stop seating 20 minutes till closing?

None of that makes sense. What can they tell in a year, how can they know the exact effect of their plans when they're moving from them so quickly? A lot of these articles make mention that millennials prefer quick restaurants like chipotle or a panera but that's not my problem with Applebees. I enjoy sitting back at a restaurant from time to time and not being in and out in 20 minutes. I'd just prefer quality food for the price you pay. That's my gripe with Applebees.

i think Chilies has ok food...Obviously it isn't gourmet but for a night out its appetizing and no where near Applebees IMO...last time i went to Applebees i ordered some shrimp stir fry thing...it tasted like one of those frozen chinese dinners you pop in the microwave.

I like my local Applebees so I hope it doesn't close

The one next to my old college campus was OK. The food was never great but it was good enough considering how cheap it was. The drinks were always good too.

I have nothing against Applebee's. Its fine. Its just that there is so much competition in that space that its hard to really move the needle. Chili's, Cheesecake Factory, iHop, Denny's, Red Robin, other regional chains etc... and thats not even considering local restaurants, fast casual etc...
