Yes and i'm glad they removed it Yes but it should still had been included because of free speech No, clearly the school is anti-gay and won't admit it No but i can see why the school removed it for offensiveness View Results Seniors Joey Slivinski and Thomas Swartz at Kearney School in Missouri had their yearbook quotes REMOVED because the School admin said it might OFFEND STUDENTS!! The openly gay students were celebrating coming out while at school and used quotes in their final yearbook of this year to show how they were feeling...but the school said that their quotes was grossly offensive and other students would not take that well!! The teens said they were outraged to find that out that neither of their quotes were included when the book arrived and instead just left with a blank space under their names as neither was told beforehand this was happening Joey said that the decision made them feel like the school was "ashamed of having a gay student. Kearney School District showed me that i am not accepted for being who i am. I put a very innocent quote as my seior quote and they took it away from me with absolutely no warning or option to change it" The School said that they removed over concerns it will offend other students and said "In an effort to protect our students, quotes that could potentially offend another student or groups of students are not published. it is the school's practice to err on the side of caution. Doing so in this case had the unintentional consequence of offending the very students the practice was designed to protect. We sincerely apologize to those students" But Thomas said that the school allowed other "potentially offensive" quotes, such as one student wrote "If i could vote, i would've voted for Trump because i can't stand having a WOMAN as president" They now plan to make stickers with their quotes to put in their friend's yearbooks and said the school was in "direct discrimination" that had ruined his last year of high school that left him disheartened and angry.
