Nevermind about guys hitting their girlfriends. I find it harder to comprehend why the girls still stay with them afterwards. I've come to the conclusion that it's because the guy is handsome and has lots of money. A great example of this is Ray Rice. He knocked his beautiful wife unconscious in an elevator and dragged her out. Yet the dumb bitch still stayed with him. Because money and status.

I'm not defending it, but relationships are often where some guys make themselves the most emotionally vulnerable, and so if you are emotionally hurt in some way and have a stupid violent way to "reclaim power" in the dynamic then selfish horrible people will do it.

Some people are more violent than others.



That's it. That's the big "secret".

There's no innate natural instinct to discourage striking another person, let alone a woman. That's social conditioning in play, not nature. So if someone grew up in an environment where violent behavior wasn't kept in check by such conditioning, they're going to develop a much higher likelihood of resorting to violence for casual reasons (like small disagreements).

As dark as it may sound, some domestic violence can be rationalized as excusable due to cultural beliefs and grim personal history. Children who grew up in homes where domestic violence was occurred, either as witnesses or victims themselves, can fall into a cycle where they are led to believe it's excusable too.

The problem is not just the abusers excusing the violence.
Many victims who grew up in a violent household do too, because they're convinced it's normal.


The latter is often why victimized women and men stay with their abuser, because it's an arrangement they're already morbidly familiar with.

A couple CEmen have had abusive GFs. They were stuck in an abusive relationship for years, being manipulated and attacked for not doing everything demanded of them, or implied.

most domestic violence is reciprocal so its people hitting each other and continuing a negative cycle of escalation that general ends up with the man doing more damage due to physiology.

funny thing is that gay relationships have the lowest rates of ipv, and lesbians have the highest rates.

i don't get why people stay with someone that elicits such responses. If/when a gf got me that angry that i'd even approach the violent impulse because they hit the right button, i'm out. I want nothing to do with you.

yeah it can't just be anger that causes it. i have a mood disorder which sends me into fits of rage sometimes but i'd never hit my girl even in that state. The thought may cross my mind if I'm bad enough state and the situation i'm in permits it sort of but I'll hit myself to stop myself/get the urge out before i'd hit my girlfriend. guys that get a power trip out of this are less than pathetic.

I agree hitting your girl is bad, but the fact is people only seem to care about domestic violence when the victim is a girl. To a large degree, no one cares, and many even laugh, when the victim is a guy.

It's just a bad standard because if men know they can't hit women and women know they can get away with it then they have leverage to be violent knowing there won't be repurcussions, and if there's any retaliation then she's 100% the victim.

If we want to have a discussion purely on 'its bad to hit women" then the discussion would be "ok we know" and it'd end there. It's something that doesn't really need to be said. Even people that do hit women know it's bad, they're just scummy people. See a man hitting a woman in public, and many rush up to defend the girl.

The reason it's brought up a lot in general discussions is because topics like these always single out man on woman violence. It speaks to the weirdness why woman on man violence is often initially excluded from domestic violence conversations tbh

The answer to TC's question is "because women hit them"

No seriously, that's not a neck beard answer. It's what the stats point to.

1. Most DV is reciprocal
2. Women start the violence far more often than males do (for reasons that have somewhat already been touched on in this topic)
3. Usually the female starts hitting because of something verbal said by the male. The male starts hitting because he was hit first
4. Male on female unreciprocated DV is actually a lot rarer than female on male unreciprocated violence these days IIRC.

He blamed it all on his gf and grabbed her into shower room after some yelling and grabbed the shower faucet and pushed it against her mouth with water pressure on max for a while. She almost passed out then he stopped gave her a hard slap and left to work.
