Basically what would make for the most entertaining eSport if you're just there as an observer?

While it's not the most legitimate fighting game, Smash Bros. has always been entertaining to watch.

This is far too heavily dependent on the commentators, tbh, since you can't actually see the entire field of play or both players' actions at once. If you've got some morons commentating and controlling the camera, it's a miserable experience trying to watch a match. And anybody who's ever watched a game of NBA basketball or NFL football can attest, the higher the level of competition the worse the commentators get.

I'd say either MvC or CounterStrike. MvC is flashy enough that people who don't know the intricacies can still be entertained, while more educated viewers can appreciate the skill of the competitors. CounterStrike is a more fundamental game on the whole, with very easy-to-follow objectives and obvious important moments for the newbies, while still having something for the more hardcore audience in terms of the economy and map control.

idk something like Street Fighter or CounterStrike, things that are slower/more simple compared to the other games in their respective genres so people who know nothing about the games can still follow along and feel the tension, but still have alot of strategy behind them that people into them can think about and stuff and whatnot

Warhawk on the PS3 was that kind of a game for me. All the stuff you would do in that game.... watching people run around, landmining planes, dropships, all this stuff. It was amazing.

Any of the SSB games.

Sometimes I even set the CPU to play 4-8 player smash games, set them to level 9, and have it playing in the background while getting ready for work.
