Some kid who doesn't give a shit about science isn't going to all of a sudden get a huge interest in a field and pursue it. 50% of what public schools teach is either patently false or irrelevant and the other 50% is pretty much forgotten. Most people I meet can't even do 5th grade mathematics unless they're job is a lot easier with a formula.
