He's probably gonna get minimal jail time if any.

He was convicted of the lesser charges and not guilty on the more serious charges. I won't guess how much jail time he'll get, if any, but considering even if he got convicted of all counts, he wouldn't have ended up doing the max most likely. Whatever time he gets, he might even like it given his bizarre villain persona he likes to craft for himself.

He jacked up the price of his medicine and that cost was passed onto insurance companies, not the people.

The smear campaign was the pharmaceutical companies assassinating his character and we all fell for it.

I like Shrekli, he's basically my business idol. I thought what he did with Daraprim was very smart and him getting targeted by media was unfortunate. I'm glad that this is unrelated to Daraprim, but disappointed that he was fucking with people's money.

he did nothing wrong regarding the Daraprim thing--it was more of a PR disaster where the flames were being fanned by people who didn't know what the fuck they were talking about.

But he did all other kinds of scammy shit that he should pay up for.

That doesn't seem like a "conservative" statement, but instead a "you're not paying for it - humana is!" ignorance of how costs are really passed on.

Probably bias on both our parts, though.

right

http://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/blog/2017/may/maternity-care-and-mental-health-coverage-requirements

We found that maternity care accounted for 4 percent of per capita insurer spending in our data, and mental health and substance abuse treatment accounted for 1 percent of per capita insurer spending. Prescription drug spending was more substantial, representing approximately 22 percent of per capita insurer spending. These results are similar to those reported in a recent issue brief by the actuarial firm Milliman.

Because premiums are based on per capita insurer spending plus administrative costs, the spending amounts in Exhibit 1 illustrate how premiums might change if coverage for select essential health benefits were excluded from the benefits package.2 If we assume that administrative costs are proportional to spending on services, eliminating maternity, mental health, and substance abuse treatment would reduce premiums by 5 percent. Because prescription drugs encompass a larger share of total spending, eliminating this benefit would lead to a larger reduction in premiums—decreasing them by 22 percent.

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/04/pharma-bro-martin-shkreli-convicted-in-federal-fraud-case.html

Brafman said that because the jury found that any loss suffered by Retrophin was either low, or non-existent, as the defense claims, the sentence recommended for Shkreli will be light.

If you actually read into it, it sounds like he kind of got screwed on a technicality.
