Board 8 > Do any PS4 games actually use that stupid light bar on the controller?

I remember getting my PS4 and being annoyed at the lack of an option to turn that light off, as not only does it waste the already crap battery life, but it causes a bright reflection on the screen. And I don't even have the camera, so even if a game wanted to track it, it wouldn't be able to.

Now a few years later, and it suddenly occurred to me that I've never seen a game try to use the lightbar as a sub-Move motion controller, or even mention it. I guess maybe there's some downloadable crap on PSN, but any proper, decent games with any use for it at all? Or did they give up on it when they decided to revive the PS Move controller for VR?

And if they really are useless, why the hells will they still not give us an option to just turn the damn thing off?

It's a dumb gimmick that isn't used particularly well, but they do use it.

In GTA when you're being chased by the police it flashes like the siren lamps.

Several games do. At least you can dim the light to help with the battery.

as a non-ps4 owner.... wouldn't it make sense to only light up when it's actually... being used?

Also it's kind if useful as a charging indicator.

It does something in Rogue Legacy when choosing a class but I can't tell what.

It's always being used in theory at least as an indicator that the controller is on.

I think in the Uncharted collection they use it to show your health via colors, even if it's a little redundant since it's about as accurate as the on screen signs

In the Borderlands collection it changes colors based on the element of the gun you use.

In Infamous: Second Son, the color indicates what color you're using when spray painting or something.

Is it not a Move thing, then? I assumed it was meant to be like the brightly lit ball on the top of the wand. Didn't realise it was for information/atmosphere.

The speaker's cool though. Getting cellphone conversations through it in Grand Theft Auto was kind of neat.

Yeah, this is actually pretty useful, especially when you put them down for a break and need to figure out whose is whose.

Uh, apart from that though, I don't even notice it on a lot of the time. I mean, it's facing away from you and I'm looking at the TV.

There's no reason it shouldn't be able to be turned off I agree.

Not that it ever bothered me much besides potential battery wasting.

I noticed it turning red when playing Tales of Berseria for some reason. Otherwise it is mostly blue and of course yellow when it is charging.

No wonder the battery life is crap compared to the PS3 controller.

Also in FIFA 2 player games, the red cursor is the person with the red light on their controller

I think it turned green in The Last of Us when you went into the spore areas that require a mask.
