Can i get an explanation on this roster, because I think at least one part of this is illegal. Damus was paid down, Dizzy was paid down+suprise entrance, but how'd lightning get on the roster? (And monokuma doesn't cut it)

Monokuma is fake but Serra isn't, and Monokuma switch lets Lightning be rostered in low once you factor in Serra

I'm not sure why you'd pick that out of all things to complain about rules interactions. There isn't really any other interp that doesn't end up making an ability arbitrarily not work.

There is nothing arbitrary about keeping the properties of an upkeep change in place.

for instance if there were a hypothetical merc out there who caused upkeep to go up by 4 or 5 but that that raise did not effect rostering, Serra swapping probably shouldn't cause that merc to suddenly take up more slots.

this got me thinking about a hypothetical situation where serra declared Vergil to be her servant, and then Vergil decided he required more power. Vergil has the passive that explicitly states he only takes the roster slots of a 7/week, but serra wouldn't have it, so its basically the exact situation you described.

so if you wanted to roster this Serra/Vergil combo in mid tier, i would say she take up to a 12/weeks worth of roster slots. which doesn't fit, so she'd outspend herself from fighting. i am the problem with mercenaries2015.

thats also operating under the assumption that the check for upkeeps from serra's servant is a constant thing, not a one time check when the ability is used. no idea how you guys ruled on that here. I see legit arguments for both interps so i'm not bothered by that (even if it makes a gigantic difference).

I think it's a constant thing, but Monokuma's upkeep-changing can be done every week, so there's no practical difference.

Why not? Serra's upkeep swap DOES alter roster slot costs. That's like, a thing it does. Similarly, Monokuma says the upkeep swap does something 'for the purpose of abilities'. If it doesn't affect Serra's ability, then it would be doing nothing, yes? Which contradicts the text. Thus it MUST affect the 'real' upkeep swap.

If it makes you feel better under our regime I feel like we would've found a way to deny that

I probably would've said that Serra's upkeep swap is a check made when the ability is used.

Mostly because

"And, naturally, they will give all of their extra funds to Serra-- meaning if their upkeep is greater than hers the two will exchange upkeep values until this ability's effect ends"

That part to me in particular seems like it should be a one time check, made when the ability is used. Meaning using Monokuma afterwards wouldn't do anything as the "swap" flag hasn't been flipped.
