I'm not completely sure, it's the only yugioh I haven't seen But from what I've gleamed, they are pieces of Astral's memory that scattered around the Earth. When someone obtains them, the monster becomes a sort of manifestation of the wielder's psyche. So Shark has aquatic shark-themed Number monsters for example I should probably watch it since people say part ii is really good but Yuma is annoying and I already have a bunch of other anime started so it won't happen soon Also apparently Number monsters above 99 or 100 are special. I remember seeing this 1000 card or something like that and it had like 10000 atk and also a win condition. also tbh I haven't watched Yu-Gi-Oh since about halfway through GX.

I don't think it exists in the physical game because, as it's a c-Number monster, it effectively has to be summoned from Rank-up-Magic and it was Rank 13 which is impossible in the tcg  --- ... yeah iirc it needed like 3 lvl 9 cards or some shit. man i need to get back into yugioh. I love cards that are just insane. Like it takes forever to get on the field but that balances it's opness.

Modern Yugioh has a lot of cards that follow the doctrine of "really hard to effectively get out but if you do, oh shit"   (Uses the pendulum scales to use another Xyz monster as material)    There is no Number 111+ monsters tho iirc --- ...
