I'm saying the decoys should imitate children, because that is the decoys purpose. There's no difference from the point of view of a predator between a decoy "making the first move" and an actual child "making the first move".

This is a common misconception about the show-- one that I used to hold, myself. Some of the conversation snippets they highlight on the show certainly appear to be entrapment. But eventually someone on CE dared me to find evidence of entrapment in the actual chat logs (many of which have been posted online)... after an hour or two of reading through some truly disturbing conversations, I couldn't find anything. The chat decoys follow the law to the letter.

These guys initiate the pursuit, every time. They are predatory, through and through.

I mean, I think that's really up to society's mass interpretation of the purpose of the show. The cinematography, tone, and conduct of the host and police definitely frame it as a serious show/special report focusing on the dangers of letting your kids socialize online.

I could get on board with the whole "it's disgusting" opinion if they did stuff like play gags on the guys, embarrass them publicly or added laugh tracks to scenes.

That's "great" in theory, but in reality they have chat logs and inappropriate items in peoples' vehicles (boxes of condoms, alcohol, etc.) that very clearly prove intent...

I think one guy did try this "defense", though (he might have even brought a letter if I recall correctly)... don't think it turned out too well for him.

But like what I said earlier...If the predators would just tell Chris Hansen that they're lying to kids on the internet about wanting to have sex with them so that they could "string" them and educate them on why it's bad to agree to hook up with strangers on the internet, they theoretically wouldn't be doing anything different than what Chris Hansen and his team is doing (lying to setup an educational sting).

They even say it themselves on the show "If these guys come up with a good enough story, we can let them walk away." But they don't. They show up and tell the truth lol.

There's just so many flaws in this line of logic.
The immediate question that arises is - why are you showing up to the house after arranging to have sex with a minor when you know the minor is home alone, as opposed to trying to contact the parents directly?

A secondary question based on that question is - what sort of response do you expect from the parents when they see the conversation logs from your interaction with their child? Do you think they'd think that's an appropriate way to communicate with children?

The behaviors and actions of these people run entirely counter to what you're trying to sell us here.

I suppose in those cases that would be a bit too much evidence against you in order for that to work.

However, I have one last sure-fire way to avoid getting in trouble. When you show up with a pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade, and they call your name, just say "No, that's not my name". And then when you see Chris Hanson, just say "Oh shit, I thought this was my buddy Benny's house. Me and Benny was just gonna chill out and play some Xbox and drink some Mike's Hard Lemonades. I thought this was the house he said. Guess I was wrong. Laterz!"

And then the police officers who are waiting outside with dicks erect ready to tackle you on the pavement are going to look at your ID card and see your name on the license...

"I came at her house at a pre-arranged time when she told me there would be no adults home". Sounds legit.
