Fool glances through the door that has just been opened.
Door #9 it used to read. But now the letters were scrubbed to the side when the door opened.
"Hmm..."

Joe and that cockroach were chatting about something right now.
Fool had a somewhat uneasy feeling about it.
Could that guy really be trusted?
Well, first of all, the other cockroaches in this place had attempted to kill them.
Secondly, that Demon from before kept complaining about the Cockroach in this lab.
If he felt like he could trust Short, which he sort of felt like he probably could,
Then it logically followed that this guy was probably 'bad news.'

"Just what are you hiding down here?" Fool inquired.
He went over to join the two.
Inside he could see... well, it was not what he expected.
There was a Sleeping Boy inside of there.

Patry snickered to himself.
But, being a bug, it was more of a chittering noise.
"Kh-hh-h-h...."
"These are some of my greatest creations."
"Why don't you have a look around?"

Inside the room was the bed, of course.
In the corner were a series of White Pods, coagulated in the upper reaches.
It was sort of... well, a bit of a disgusting mess.
The impression Fool got was like some creature had laid a bunch of eggs and stuck them together over there.

"Messy.." Fool uttered.

"This is the Lightforge," Patry explained, showing off the lab a bit more.
There were several different types of weapon hafts, hilts, and holsters.
Coming over and looking down, Fool saw some weird stuff he had never seen before.
There was an odd sort of... material... floating around inside of the forge.
"Liquid Light," Patry explained. "And I created a place where it can be condensed and made into weapons."
"Sadly... the process takes quite some time."
Patry looked somewhat disappointed. "In all this time I only managed to finish one weapon."

Two thousand years? Maybe longer?
And he only completed one weapon?!
Just what the hell kind of Forge were they dealing with here...

Despite Patry's claim, however, Fool found two Liquid Light Arrows.
While the researcher wasn't looking, the robot took them and stored them safely away.
Perhaps he'd find a use for those later.
Maybe they didn't count as a full 'Weapon' project that had been completed, but...
It was almost a sure bet they were incredibly dangerous items.

"And what of the Sleeping Boy?" Fool asked.
That was what he was really wondering about.

"This is..."
Patry paused a long time for dramatic effect.
Actually, no.
He just didn't want to say it.
"... The Ferris Wheel Operator from Hell."

"His name is Vambrace."

The Demon sleeping in the bed finally woke up.
He gave a loud yawn and stretched out.
Just like Short, he definitely had the appearance of a young boy.
Was that a common trait of Demons? Fool would have to check on that later.

Vambrace had messy, dust colored hair.
He had a stupid, sleepy look about him.
Although, considering the circumstances, that probably made sense.

"... And what is he doing here?" Fool asked.

Patry let out a sigh.
"Vambrace was the weakest of the Demons I captured."
"For that reason I thought his soul wouldn't be as valuable to use in traditional grafting experiments."
"With my other projects upstairs, you see, I took the soul of a Powerful Demon."
"The goal was to Affix that Soul to something which I had control over."

"Making your own powerful slaves," Fool said.
Since he was a robot, his voice didn't betray much emotion.

Patry gave an exaggerated shrug with his great insect mass.
"Well, this guy was better suited to serving as a guinea pig rather than a research material."

Vambrace sat back and then let out another long yawn.

"He must have been important to keep him here in the SECRET LAB," Fool observed.
"So what exactly were you testing?"

"Khh-hh-h-h...."
"You see, for that I-.."
"Oh, yes. Let me finish showing you around the lab."
"We can talk more about it later."

"Vambrace, why don't you come with us?"

The Demon nodded and followed the two outside.

Patry took Fool, Joe, and Vambrace and led them around the lab, showing off various areas.
Of course, since the players already explored the dungeon, they had been to many of these places already.
Thinking about it, Patry decided it wasn't a good idea to go downstairs.
At some point Mara Raiev began to follow the group.
However, Patry did not seem to notice her.

Eventually they went into the Inventory Room.

"Hm... Odd." Patry seemed distressed.
"The lab shouldn't be open until the Inventory Processing is complete."
He glances at the Orange Pilot Light, which is of course still not on.

Joe walks over and pushes the switch.
"Like this?"

"No, you fool! It's to prevent-" Patry takes a step forward but there's no way he could reach Joe in time.

Of course the Inventory they were keeping was that of... the Alpha Fiends.
The reason it was important to process the Inventory before opening the Research Door,
Was so that the Alpha Fiends would not interact with the Beta Fiends and seize control of them.
In this circumstance the Beta Fiends had all just gone and died in battle against Qslvl.
But that still left one problem...

The section of the wall beside Joe slid open.
And within an instant a Very Angsty Hydramera vaulted out from behind the screen.
This thing had been patiently waiting in the Inventory Storage for a very, very long time.
As soon as it heard voices and movement on the other side it was ready.
Alpha Fiends had a range of intelligence.
The Hydramera was actually... very intelligent!
He had constructed a perfect plan to ambush the Research Assistants and kill them all.
Well, the targets seemed to have changed, but the plan was more or less still the same.

With a startling roar it spun into the room.
Its horned head was driven low to the ground as if it were about to charge.

Those standing further back, in the water, fell into a defensive scramble.
They didn't want to get bowled over.

Then, all at once, he turned his entire body another full cycle.
His back end spun around the corner and snapped in the direction of Joe.
Joe, who had just pressed the switch, was the nearest target.
Therefore, he was the highest priority!

The reptilian head snapped downward, biting at Joe to grab his leg and entangle him.
But... that's not all!
This was not your standard Chimera.
The Hydramera had an assortment of reptilian heads on its ass.
And all at once they would attack.
Five at once, to be exact.
They lashed out at the young HERO beneath them.
The creature, its body larger than that of a bear (easily) stood over Joe with an imposing figure.
And as those tails lashed down there seemed to be no escape.
Like whips, but with fangs at the end--- they cut !!

Joe hopped into the hair slightly, vaulting over the first attack.
There was a splash in the water beneath him as the head struck where he had been standing a moment ago.
Then he was lifted off the ground as he landed on the back of the retracting head.
Joe jumped forward, through the tangled mess of attacks coming his way.
He spun, uncoiling his whip, and slashed outward in a circular pattern.

Ribbons of blood erupted all around him as he flew through the web of snake heads [3]!

He landed on the back of the creature on one foot,
Took just a moment,
And then jumped to the other side.

Joe landed safely in the water.
Away from the monster and safe from a follow up attack.
Furthermore, he managed to damage a few of the snake heads badly.
One had even gone limp and was bleeding out into the water.

"Back!" Patry screamed. "Get back!"

The crates nearby started to sizzle and pop as the acidic blood spread out through the water and burned them.

And-... What's more-...

The level of the water was rising!

"... I've been alone for so long... All I've known is heartbreak..."
The Hydramera was muttering something to himself. It was very angry.
"Why did you leave me? Sylph..."

The other Alpha Fiend, Sylph, had already escaped long ago.
She was the ruler of this room.
For some time now.
For that reason, the dead research assistant began to make a lot more sense.

Sylph must have killed him when she escaped.
The water in here was her doing.
Or, rather, the water here... it was her!

The acid was directed in a torrent of water and erupted, splashing at the others.
They were forced back, out of the room,
And Joe was trapped in here by himself.

Sylph emerged in her fully physical embodiment.
Joe, looking up at her, instantly found himself blushing.
She was a tall, pale blue beauty. She looked like a model from his homeworld.
Her hair was swirling, ivory and seaweed.
She opened her mouth. ".... ah...." But only a weak sound came out.

The Hydramera splashed the water with a heavy stomp.
It took a step toward Joe.
Was it going... to crush him...?

While the Alpha Fiends are distracted, Sylvester takes this chance to loot some boxes.
"Let's see. I...." He rummaged through some of the nearby ones that hadn't been melted yet.
As he worked his way around the boxes, however, he put himself behind the Hydramera.
Now this would be the perfect position to launch a sneak attack.
However, Sylvester wasn't even thinking about this.
"Sylvestah! WATCH OUT! ( V___V )" Nery cried in alarm.
The Hydramera, of course, sensing someone behind it, thought of it as a threat.
Its back legs lashed out, kicking the Seaclops in the side of the skull.

Sylvester tumbled to the ground with a concussion and passed out.
Normally he would have probably drowned before waking up.
But Nery floated beside him (^ .^) and pulled his head out of the water.
She slapped him, trying to wake him up. "Sylvestahhh... nooooo ( Y__Y)"

Outside of the Inventory Room, some other stuff had been going on.
Patry comes rushing outside.
"Well, alright, let's take the tour out here."
The Head Researcher nervously wrings his hands.
He did not expect the Alpha Fiends to cause such a ruckus!
"... P-Perhaps... um... maybe it's better if we just go back upstairs?"

[Note: Starting next turn, the team will begin to move up one floor at the end of each turn.]
[Note: Hydramera and Sylph will chase the players.]
[Note: Any player who fails to take an action will automatically be killed by Hydramera.]

John trades his Broom with the Merchant.
Actually, the Merchant gets annoyed. He breaks the broom [1].
"Don't waste my time with garbage you found in the closet..."

IG-59 trades his Enchanted Lute with the Merchant.
"Are... you sure?" The Merchant looks the item over.
It was a Rare Find indeed. But, well, he wouldn't turn down the opportunity to seize a valuable item.
Actually, IG-59 didn't seem to know the value of it. He was scammed [1].
IG-59 is given a Repeating Crossbow.
While valuable, it is immensely less valuable than the item he had just turned over.
Whoops.

Rem focuses on patching himself up for what he sensed would be more coming battles.
Y will assist Remulel.
"Um, do you know first aid?" [1]
"I don't even know how the physiology of beings in this dimension works." [1]

[Note: Lefty is going to have an aneurysm when he sees this]

Patry began to usher everyone back toward the Lift.
"Let's goooo... let's go!"
Looking back, he could see that the Alpha Fiends were going to follow them regardless.
"Use Ranged Weapons if you have them. The Hydramera can't attack you if you don't get close to it!"

"I'm not waiting around," he barks. "I've lived this long... I won't die at the end!"

It'd probably be smart for people with range means [Rem, Mara, IG, and arguably Y] to hold off Hydra while remainders do other things / investigate the new stuff (or help Sylvester although this may just come down to what he does unless assist affects that) while we still have the chance

sure, the only side effect is that it moves you behind Rem in the turn order.

I'm gonna start rolling for updates in a little while here but before I do that quick update

I'll be going out of town this weekend and I don't really know if I'll have the free time or really care to bother updating. we might have a day or two off basically. in the meantime if I don't stop by at all it would probably be a good idea for someone to try to remember to bump the topic.
