Story mode is like, an hour long

Like, I haven't played it in awhile but I recall tekken 6's story mode being WAY longer than that. at least 5 or so hours? maybe more. I can't remember


but definitely not ONE hour


Beating it unlocks "character episodes" that unlock little stories that show you what the other non-plot relevant characters were doing when the mishimas were fighting.


I looked at King's


.....his is only one fight, and its against a jack. And theres an INGAME cutscene afterwards, its not even the full FMV stuff

AND THATS IT

Look, I'll tell yo his whole story right now

Tekken 6 ended on a 3 way show off between Armor King the Second, Mardock, and King

this game reveals King was the only one that got out okay, Mardock and AK are hospitalized
so he enters Tekken 7 for the cash money

they KINDA handwave his lack of money because they mention his orphanage and how its in constant danger, but I dunno, I don't buy that hes now as poor as Paul and Law now


anyways, his match is in a Ring, he fights a fucking Jack, then when you beat him
King realizes Jack knows all of HIS moves. So King pulls out a Murdock move, then hes like Yay, that worked, heres Armor King! Then he does AK's move

then Jack blows up

hes like, Yay!
And CUT

THATS IT

MAYBE other people's have longer stories? But this was fucking shit




This game has a worse story mode than SFV AND SCV!!!

You mostly use Heihachi, was is fine I guess, but it got boring, especially since I don't know how to sue him

They seriously undid everything Tekken 6 built up in like 10 seconds

Lars and Alisa barely had a reunion and barely got any screen time

they kept hyping up Jin and his importance to everything but he was unconscious the whole game


Akuma being in the story was almost funny. NOBODY in universe saw him coming, just like us, and he made the plot go into a tangent while he was on screen

Kazumi was a god damn waste. they made her seem like she was the big bad of this game? SHE WAS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME. Everything was in flashbacks. SHE DOESN"T SHOW UP IN THE ACTUAL STORY


One of Heihachi's big plans was to fake his death and have Kazuya transform into the devil on live TV

it works

but then like, 5 minutes after that happens and G corp loses public favor, he steps outside, shoots down Heihachi's satellite in space, and it destroys a city. Then everybody just FORGETS theres a real life demon and turns on the Zaibatsu again. wut >_>

Heihachi Mishima.....is dead

Kazuya punches his soul and he dies (maybe)


and then Lars, Lee, and Jin are like, its time to take action

THEN IT ENDS RIGHT THERE

I FIGURED THIS WAS AT LEAST THE GOD DAMN HALFWAY POINT

THIS IS ALL THATS IN STORY MODE

They DO have an arcade mode here but it doesn't have anything to do with their story.
Even actual physical arcade fighting games at least have story

Fighting against other people is fun, but I've actually always played Tekken mostly for single player content. Past games had a lot of that to play, especially 3 and 5. Disappointing to see 7 actually be worse than 6.

As for the actual plot though, that just sounds like standard Tekken. The Mishimas turn into demons and kill each other and/or just die pretty much every game, so that's nothing new.

Is Okada's presence in the game any good?

So when you beat the game, you unlock a special fight where you FIGHT SHIN AKUMA


His hair doesn't turn white but if you recall, Shin Akuma is just Akuma going all out. The whole "transform" thing doesn't actually exist, the color thing is just to tell the two character slots apart



anyways, he is the HARDEST BOSS IN ALL OF TEKKEN HISTORY

He refills his super in an instant, he can take half your life in one combo, his Focus Attack is TOO fast and unblockable, his teleport is lightning quick, he can zoom half the stage in a half second

and he can kill you with one raging demon. His health also regenerates at an incredible rate

on top of ALL of that, he is an input reading son of a bitch

despite the epic scenario (You're using a perma transformed Devil Kazuya for this fight)
this was not fun in the least

they COMPLETELY just forget that Steve witnessed Paul and Law die in an explosion and offer no explanation as to what happened with Tekken 6's plot

I am surprised people care about story mode in fighting games..I thought I was a very rare case
Still don't think any game can beat Soul Calibur 3 story mode though

Law, Paul, and Steve got together to cheat the Iron Fist tournament and the Zaibatsu murdered Law and Paul for it, and it wasn't played for laughs

And it ended with Steve with a horrified look on his face


I know they probably didn't actually die, but I would have liked it if they resolved it somehow, god dammit

There's an over-saturation of competitive tourney fighting games, so I rather look for one with more single player content than multiplayer.
I only have time to focus on getting good at one fighting game. That fighting game for me is Smash.

Mortal Kombat used to be the worst for this.

Scorpion's UMK3 ending went back and made his MKII ending canon, but ONLY in the context of his UMK3 ending. From MK4 onward, BOTH endings were non-canon.

But literally every Tekken game has only like, three-four endings that actually happened. Hell, Yoshimitsu and Bryan have killed each other multiple times, now. And in 3, almost everybody is shown to have won the tournament. Fighting game endings are never something to trust. >_>

Yea, endings contradict each other until we find out what ACTUALLY happened in the next game

but sometimes endings don't contradict a single thing. Theres no reason to believe some of them didn't happen anyways, even if they don't effect anything

Nina Spoilers

Shes involved with the Mishima plot for the first half of it

at one point she fails in her mission and shes just sitting there slumped over (but alive) in the wreckage of a building surrounded by dead bodies


her Character Chapter reveals she quit after that and became an assassin again
The entire explanation of her wedding dress is she infiltrated a Mafia Wedding and killed everyone involved as part of a hit. She then ran into Steve Fox shortly after and thats the story fight

After she wins, she leaves Steve there while the Tekken Force try shooting at her, she runs away and thats the end of the story

SO YEA, all of the hub bub over her dumbass wedding dress costume was explained and resolved within a few lines of dialog. And we'll likely never see it again

What the hell was the point of this character costume change >_>

So the character customization is lacklaster. They brought back a few things I missed in TTT2 (BANDANAS FOR KING!) but they removed stuff too, I can't change the color of King's masks >_>

The only things Tekken has over SCV is the fact that you don't use the incest twins, and tekken doesn't use storyboard stills to tell it's story


At least with SCV, it had a longer story, you met way more characters, and you didn't have your super combos sealed off from you

I think they messed with King

hes a fraction of a second slower than hes been in previous games

with my playstyle, this completely kills him, I can't get any moves off with him



whats funny is APPARENTLY theres a glitch (maybe around Tekken Revolution? but its performable on TTT2) called ISW

Instant Shining Wizard, Shining Wizard being his running throw knee to the face

if you tap the joystick in a very specific way, you can actually trick the game into thinking you're running and you can pull off the running throw at point blank



Almost all of King's combos in this game completely rely on you being able to pull this off consistently

almost all of the damage comes from you doing this throw while juggling them in the air



I can't do it

in the first time in like 20 years I'm gonna have to change mains

I'm still trying, but its bad that the thought crossed my mind

I reached 100 wins. I'm a Grand Master, which I think is the final rank before you get to the fancy ranks

my win rate is almost 50%, which is pathetic for me

Okay, Every fighting game, hell, every fight IRL is about who gets the first hits

I know this, believe me. I've done both

but the problem here is that the game is now reliant on these things called...Tailspins? or something. You hit a guy with a specific move and they spin, land on the ground, and their legs are in the air for a few seconds and you go up to them and continue your combo.

Almost everybody has one that triggers when you hit them while the enemy is standing

So one two three punches, and the third one makes them fly to the ground and you can continue your combo

so the game has become just a mash fest of people just spamming their one or two strings that lead to their tail spin move and then continue their combo (Continue combo continue combo continue combo. I'm aware I keep saying this)

This would never happen in street fighter. Its about links when you connect. You can't just mash and have the character keep attacking

so wheres the problem?

AS I SAID, KING IS FUCKING SLOW AS SHIT

So once King is being rushed, theres literally NOTHING he can do. He can't do his launcher inbetween their punches because its too slow

He can't do his back dash because its too slow

he can't JAB because its too slow.

Whats worse? HE DOESN"T HAVE A STANDARD TAIL SPIN MOVE


All of his only activate during counters or juggles. He can't just start swinging and trigger one. They're all very specific


so king is at a MAJOR disadvantage in this game


I can no longer do this with him

The spin moves and Bounds are entirely different

they're performed differently, have different properties, and most importantly, didn't change the entire Tekken Mindset


Bounds were just basically juggle extenders

spins are much more universal

like I said, its now a mashfest to see who slips up when rushing

My brother has mained King forever and he's thrilled that he can finally do the running jaguar bomb combo ender in Tekken 7 because they made it so much easier to do than in TTT2. If you're doing it after a tailspin, you really don't have to do the iSW notation at all, you just have to run and do the grab. I just went to practice mode myself and tried it out and it's actually pretty easy.
