That's a crock and completely ignorant to the history of slavery within this country and how, yes, many disapproved of it during it's prevalence in the US. Not to mention the whole idea of "it's legal therefore no one would have an issue with it lol" is completely asinine and there's multiple examples of this not being true.

You guys are being too literal

You're assuming slavery is just suddenly legal with absolutely nothing else changing in the world, including society's values and your own upbringing. That's completely ridiculous and the scenario makes absolutely no sense, it's a futile exercise.

You have to assume that if it is legal, then it always has been legal and you were raised with it being legal. That also means it hasn't been voted out and therefore most of the country is on board with slavery. In that scenario, where you were raised to believe it's perfectly okay, odds are most people wouldn't have an issue with it.

AKA if you were born and raised during a time when slavery was "okay" then yeah, some of you owuld own slaves and not give two shits about it.

Many people raise themselves above the morals they grew up learning or the population around them.


Of course, far far far more people don't and that doesn't make them evil or heartless or something. But I can pretty confidently say that in a situation where slavery had always been a thing and I were in a situation where I could own one and it would be socially accepted, I still wouldn't have one. I don't even like the idea of owning animals or being referred to as Master in games. <.<

I know its status changed much later, but I was thinking of chattel slavery. Which was used to argue for why it should be abolished. Slaves also couldn't be forcibly removed from Britain either at some point, I recall.

My point was even our ancestors knew slavery was wrong, as it was outlawed in some form long, long ago.

The way FIFA is employing Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese etc. is pretty damn close to slavery. The average conditions are probably equivalent if not worse than the conditions certain slaves had back when slavery was legal (some slave owners would sometimes give the slaves pretty adequate and respectful conditions). FIFA is known to confiscate passports from the people they employ, make promises they don't keep, and often make the workers work 18+ hours a day in the burning heat.

FIFA represents a giant company that exploits laws in certain countries (in this case Qatar) to make a gigantic profit due to low salaries and high returns with some tickets being sold for well over 3000$.

The reason I'm bringing this up is to say that obviously it's very profitable to have slaves or something close to it, and while almost every individual would say no to slavery, big companies will scream a big fucking yes to the idea slavery.
