I think Elba is great for the role and i understand why the whole ka-tet isn't there given that it's just a single movie, but I was never particularly huge on Jake and it looks like that'll be a lot of the focus here.

As a huge fan of the books, I'm really looking forward to it. I wouldn't want a direct adaptation of the book for many reasons. I think this movie looks like it's keeping in the right tone of the books while making it more accessible than a lot of the wonky stuff would be.

Going to be seeing it opening weekend and hyping it up as much as I can.

The last 30 seconds sold me. Right actors for the most important roles, too. I have loved this series for two decades, I am hyped.

Hopefully it doesn't descend into generic territory with the ol' beam shooting in the sky and all that.

I agree that i don't want a direct adaptation. I just want less Jake, more roses and turtles!

Looks good. I enjoyed parts of the series, but lost interest after book 5. I like the apparent increase of Flagg. The world hopping stuff in books 2 and 3 was my favorite part, and this looks to have a lot of that.

Too generic actiony for my liking, but McConaughey is SO GOOD.

The main reason I thought Elba was a poor casting decision was coz it ruins the interactions between Roland and Detta but if we aren't getting her or Eddie, I understand the decision.

Will watch this day one.

I don't think the riddles would translate well to an action film, but there is no excuse for a lack of robot bears.

Idris Elba's fantastic, but no trademark piercing blue eyes and no gaunt Roland takes away quite a lot of his character, the action movie vibe is kinda meh too from a fan standpoint... but it looks like it'll be a good action movie if I ignore the source material.

I can only hope it's massively successful and we get a TV series that does it justice tbh. You could make a GoT epic out of the source material.

I think that the source material itself is a strength, not something to be ignored. There are worlds other than these, and the decisions made for the movie can easily be explained away as from another space. And we know that stories of the universe are unreliable and inconsistent in a "time and space are convoluted" sense.

Even if you take *spoilers* into consideration it makes little sense from a standpoint that they've only borrowed "some" when The fact that the journey has been recurring is integral. So that's a bit of a cop out to me.

I see how it can be a cop out, but if they implement that aspect well, I'll be satisfied.

I would absolutely murder multiple men if it meant having a Netflix series though.

Huh, that was actually not bad. Only thing I hated was some of the overly fancy gunplay, specifically the dumb midair double reload. I dunno maybe there's like a youtube video around where someone does that irl so it's technically physically possible, but Roland's character strikes me as too serious and practical for fancy crap like that. Hopefully they put the most action-packed parts in there to attract the casual audience and the actual movie is a lot quieter than the trailer implies.

I mean Roland's gunslinging is pretty magical in the books, so I can forgive them that much, it's the realism of the combat itself that is humanising. Bullets miss, wounds are wounds etc etc.

Guys, what if this is a look at the story MUCH much earlier in Roland's journey?

What if at the beginning, Roland only just met Jake instead of both Eddie and Susannah

Yeah, I can accept it as a modernization of the mythical pulp/spaghetti western vibe of the books aimed at an audience that probably doesn't have a connection to that old stuff. Really I just needed something to nitpick about because the rest of the trailer left me cautiously optimistic.

I could live with this, but I think the pulp approach Harmonica mentioned is more likely. I am really gutted about the no blue eyes, buff Roland though, like his eyes were basically the only thing about him that seemed alive, that was a huge center piece of framing him. It's not like Idris hasn't had CGI eyes before, IDG why they'd skip that.
