They have hundreds of thousands or preorders and people are willing to wait. They have a very faithful and happy group of shareholders and customers. Their products are highly rated. 2) Their goal was to get other car manufacturers to produce electric cars. They even open sourced a lot of their patents, and a lot of companies are using them. One of Tesla's stated goals for a long time has been to push the industry towards making electric vehicles. 3) SolarCity and Tesla are a great marriage, despite SolarCity's cash issues. Their energy gathering and storage solution will be huge in years to come. (Same with their solar roof which will be available within a few months) 4) Who cares if he's spending time at other companies? There are brilliant people at all of those companies.
