OotP fans, what did you think of the movie


I thought it was by far the worst movie with the clear evidence being that it's the longest book in the series yet the shortest movie (outside DH part 2 but that's literally a part 2 so it already had part 1 that was longer)

I vaguely remember the movie adaptations of 4 & 5 being disappointing, and the adaptation of 6 exceeding my expectations.

Five as a movie was the most disparate from the book in terms of quality, but four was easily the worst movie.

Yeah I've got to say I liked the Goblet of Fire movie the least.

Damn shame since I actually liked the book. I think it was neutering the maze that did most of the damage to me, I love that bit. But I understand why they did that.

Goblet of Fire is my favorite Harry Potter book. It's also the first Harry Potter book I read from start to end, mainly because of my science/homeroom teacher back in 6th grade loved Harry Potter and let us read these books during homeroom or free after lessons (and my teacher also took us to see the Goblet of Fire film in theaters, which was awesome). I love the Triwizard Tournament. My favorite Harry Potter event.

Phoenix fan, what are your thoughts on the first 150 pages or so? I find emo Harry to be unbearable.

It possibly takes too long to get to Hogwarts, but I had no problem with angry Harry.

5 is my favourite. I love the introduction of Luna, especially in such a dark, oppressive setting. She's perfectly judged and used. And I like how it's all Harry's fault at the end. Bitter pill to swallow but so important for his maturity - HBP Harry, who is confident, competent and funny, is probably my favourite incarnation and it's a progression from OOTP.

Oh and Umbrage is one of the best, most brilliantly hateable characters you'll find anywhere. As I got a little older I even started to realise how she's - at least partly - JKR's commentary on heavily exam-focussed teaching and learning.

I'm interested in how my Book 6/7 rereads will go as they're the only ones that I read once each. Half-Blood Prince was more or less ruined at the time thanks to the big spoiler leak and 7 had a lot of THIS IS THE END baggage attached to it, so I'm looking forward to coming into them with a fresh perspective.

Also - as dumb as the whole 'the Triwzard Cup just HAS to be the portkey' thing was, I feel like Book 3 has the two dumbest plot points in the series:

1. Time Turner being given to a 13-year old girl so she can study more
2. Peter Pettigrew hiding for 16 years as Ron's pet rat

Anyway hell yes Umbridge love (hate?). Hateable characters are hit or miss with me, like loving Umbridge and hating Joshua (TWEWY), but Umbridge is just... excellent in her role.
