Don't see why I should take my time. Got them on the amazon sale for 5 each. I suppose I'd take more time on 3.

They're excellent games worthy of a serious playthrough, but play however ya want.

It seems like it would be a waste of time. 1 is really old and glitchy. 2 I'm told is great, but I'm assuming 3's gameplay expands on that, and is probably superior in most ways. So I figure I'd rush those for the story, and take my time on the one with superior gameplay. Not to mention the one still receiving updates and stuff.

1 is really old

2007 isn't that old... goodness gracious me. Now, the gameplay mechanics are not exactly revolutionary, nor were they in 2007. It definitely feels the oldest in general, yeah, but... it's been five years.

1's story also gets really good toward the end, by the way.

The entire point of the Mass Effect games is seeing all your choices carry over from game to game. Not just the main story stuff, but the side quests as well. Skipping massive sections of game you paid money for it just weird to me.

Well, I want to see the ending. If I take too long on 1/2, I feel I'd probably get burned out on the series.. That would probably lead to me taking months to over a year off before I played 3(maybe even 2). It happened with Uncharted 2.. I replayed it before 3's launch..and took more time on treasures/multiplayer than I expected. So, right now I haven't even played 3.

Well another thing is, and you can't have possibly not heard about this, I'd imagine... ME3's endings really aren't much to write home about in the grand scheme of things, so racing toward that ultimate goal is probably going to leave you pretty... wanting

I get burned out like that when the gameplay is relatively the same in the said games. Why I don't want to take too long on 1/2. I feel I probably should though after being told about the side quest choices.

ME2 is pretty different from ME1 in terms of gameplay so you shouldn't have to worry about burnout over the course of the two games. ME3 is very similar to ME2, but the gameplay is a bit better.

You are saying that you don't want to take your time getting to ME3 because you could spent months upon months of time playing 1 and 2 if you take your time.

May I ask you what exactly is wrong with spending months and months playing games that you enjoy?

There is nothing enjoyable about the sidequests in ME1. Rush through everything except maybe a select few like the moon and character specific ones.

There's really no need to rush through the first two ME games, but don't feel the need to do every possible sidequest. There are a few story-intensive sidequests in each game. Do those and forget the rest if you just want to get through the series.

ME1 might not be that old, but it feel really dated. Especially once you start onto ME2. I'd actually suggest doing as many side quests in both games as possible (they actually have some impact since all the games are connected) and give you minor bonuses. but you can also do this on Easy difficulty if you wish. ME1 should take like 20 hours or so, ME2 would take around 40.

I'm just going to say this flat-out. 3 is the weakest game in the series. Do not rush to it. Now it still has stuff to recommend, but you'll get a much better experience if you take your time to savour 1 and especially 2. As climaxes and endings go, 3 is very underwhelming, and also suffers from some pretty lazy game design in places compared to the very rigorously structured 2. If you rush to 3, there's every possibility that you won't get much enjoyment out of the entire trilogy because you didn't spend enough time on the first two.

Leon has the best advice for ME1 - I tried to do everything, and the sidequests were so annoying/bad it burned me out and I ended up hating the game and never gave the rest of the series a chance. Just do the main story, talk to your crew and do sidequests that look interesting. Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did!
