it's not too difficult, but the fact you still have to set up a program to make it work made me invest in a wired 360 controller just for PC gaming

I just ran downstairs and snagged a 360 controller, is that even easier?

I'm emulating some PS1 games that need quality camera control, would this work for it? (And yes I own the games I'm emulating, I just don't have a console with me.)

All the 360 controller needs is a driver from Microsoft's site to use on a computer.

Gamesaike Sixaxisdriver also works, with a much simpler interface. And the 360 controller works without any config.

You can use a 360 controller if you want (If it's wired. Can't use the charger cord that comes with wireless 360 controllers).

But I'm just saying, if you want to a PS3 controller, it's really just about as simple.

My PS3 controllers are like an hour away. I can grab them in a week.

Okay so, I have the 360 controller hooked up and it's responding to it's presence in the USB port, so how do I actually get it to work? I can't configure it with the pad for epsxe.

I've had some issues getting it to work with GTA San Andres (namely, the camera keeps moving uncontrollably) but that could be an issue with the game or with my particular controller.

You are using a hardwired 360 controller, right? Not a wireless one plugged into a charger cable plugged into the computer? Because that won't work. It'll register on your computer but will not recognize input.

If you are using a wired one I'm not sure how to help you since I never got around to buying one and using it myself.

Yeah San Andreas has been the only lowspot for the PS3 controller I've had. I think the game automatically registers the Sixaxis as the up and down controls, and I haven't been able to figure out how to remap that.

It's really easy. Download DS3 Tool from motioninjoy, and it has buttons to automatically install drivers and such. The main problem is that you need to start a program for the controller to be recognized. And you need to manually click a button to turn on 360 controller emulation, which is what you need for 90% of games. It's not a big deal at all, but it's still annoying.

Sure, a 360 controller is literally just plug and play, which is convenient, but you NEED a wired one. The wireless ones just charge, and most people obviously have the wireless ones.

The DS3 drivers are also great because you can customize so much about the controls. You can change what each button does, what the deadzones and sensitivity of the analog sticks and such. I don't use it often, but it's useful for some games, and especially emulation.

Also you can do the typical wired mode which lets you charge and play at the same time, but if you have a bluetooth dongle you can do wireless as well.

Yep I can't do San Andreas with the DS3 either...

Another game that is weird with the controller is AC2. It doesn't have built-in 360 controller support, so you can't use 360 controller emulation. You have to use the PS2 controller setting, and then manually bind the buttons in the controls menu. Still works, though.

This is an underrated feature of DS3, indeed. Being able to fine tune the controller to your exact specifications is seriously awesome.

Uhhh...well, I'm definitely getting little dings when I plug the controller in and take it out so it knows something is there but...when I go to the game controllers menu in windows there's nothing listed there so something's not right.

I downloaded MIJ but it's not picking it up either.

Configure the controller within the game. Just go to wherever you can change controls inside the game and use the buttons as if they are key presses. You don't need any extra programs for the 360 controller.

The drivers installed right? The first time you plugged the controller in the found new hardware dialogue box should have popped up and installed the drivers for you. If not they should be online somewhere.

Yeah, I'm getting the serious vibe that you aren't getting this, TC. Especially after you said this:

That tells me that maybe you're still not doing what we're saying here.

You're 360 controller needs a cord built into it. Like this:

external image

Not like this:

external image

The second example can only charge your controller; no data can be sent from the cable to the PC and no matter what you do it will not work.

If I'm wrong, and you are using one like the first example, then I'm sorry, and I don't know what's wrong from there. Wired 360 controllers are ridiculously easy to hook up (assuming you're using Windows)

I thought so. I should have used picture examples sooner to make it more clear.

Once you get a wired one you'll be playing in no time.

Of course, if you don't have one with you, once again, setting up PS3 controller use is a synch.
