I guess you probably could sell it online and probably get back most of the cash you originally spent on the 3DS. If GameSpot has a deal where you can trade in a 3DS towards the 3DS XL, you could do that as well.

I think the point is that they already make an attachment for the 3DS that adds a second stick and games that use it, and that said attachment will not work with 3DS XL, so if they DON'T add a second stick to the XL, they'll just have to make ANOTHER attachment for it.
-- SuperNiceDog didn't have to reconcile his name... But Dauntless Hunter is now MrGreenonion
there will definitely be another attachment for it because monster hunter exists. i just don't think there will be that many games developed with two sticks in mind, making it yet another poorly supported nintendo accessory.

don't worry, it looks like you're better off with a regular 3DS than this thing anyways!
I have a regular 3DS myself. I also have the color that is now going to be discontinued. I don't think I'll end up getting a 3DS XL, at least not anytime soon. Although I do wonder if the regular 3DS will still be produced once the 3DS XL comes out, or if Nintendo plans to stop production of the regular 3DS soon.

I... honestly don't see why some people are excited about this. The only GOOD thing about the XL is the better battery life. The bigger size is just more of a hindrance than a help and it means that DS games and even 3DS games will probably look worse on the bigger screen.
From: UltimaterializerX | #035 Remember when I told you guys not to buy a 3DS at launch because the new and improved model would be announced within two years?
I'm really tired of being right all the time. Yeah it's new, but a lot of people here hardly consider it an improvement.

The Hunger Games>Mockingjay>Catching Fire Majora's Mask won GotD. Deal with it.
I don't get the idea of "don't buy this one, wait for the improved version!". There's always gonna be another improved version a couple years later; if you won't buy it until they stop putting out new and improved versions, you'll just be waiting forever.
It's an issue of whether the device is even worth owning before the remodel. Every system I've bought within the last ten years has been a redesign, not because the "improved versions" were necessarily that much better, but because those systems didn't have enough games to warrant a purchase before the redesign. Why buy something you're not going to use all that often when a better version could come out later? And then there are those who buy every iteration of a product at launch. That's an idea I don't get.
Granted, this doesn't look all that much better than the standard 3DS. But that's the other big advantage of waiting for an updated version: the earlier iteration should drop in price. Woohoo! Now if only the 3DS had a few more games...

The bigger size is the best thing about it, I think. It'll make the 3DS more comfortable to hold. It's a bit small as it is.
yeah, the XL is really just a matter of "if you think it was too small, this is for you." personally i like the bigger screen because with the 3D it'd especially look good (90% bigger screens? jeez). but the 'better battery' isn't even true for for me because Nyko's battery ALREADY doubles the 3DS' into the 6-10 hour range on a 3DS game (and almost twice that for DS). you know, DS fat levels. and that was on sale for $5 just 2 weeks ago.
now i assume that Nyko will do another battery to bring this up to slightly above DS Lite, but still. the size on it has left me able to carry in my pocket just fine. i'd manage to do it with the bigger one too, but it's no big deal. the real question will be what special editions come in the bigger one.

* 3DS XL is the name in the West. * $199.99 price on August 19th. * 3.5-6.5 battery life versus 3-5 hour on the 3DS. 6-10 hours versus 5-8 for DS games. * 3 hours and 30 minutes to charge. * AC adapter and 4GB memory included in the US.
DS games already look horribly meh on the 3DS, I can't imagine how screwed up they'll look on this! More importantly, are 3DS games going to drop in image quality on this? IIRC DS games did on the DSi XL. >_>
From: Azp2k32 | #008 ...Didn't they JUST announce that they weren't going to do another model of the 3DS? Are you joking? This is Nintendo. It's in their plans to come out with a new iteration with minor changes every year - 2 years.
As a non-3DS owner, this is worth considering. The only thing that worries me is the lack of a second circle pad, but it looks like Monster Hunter is the only series to use it.

I may laugh at my own jokes, but I don't dare laugh at SuperNiceDog!
I'm actually not sure what to do about this. I got my 3DS a little over half a year ago, and I had no plans to change it to any potential new models. Over the last couple of weeks though, my d-pad inexplicably seems to have become faulty, so...

^And Metal Gear, and Kingdom Hearts, and probably more games down the road
you somehow forgot Resident Evil Revelations! Also Kid Icarus technically had it.... I know it's not the way most people WANTED it, but I'm lefty so I needed it. Plus, CPP controls wouldn't work well for that game anyways! But yeah I don't really know what people are talking about with CPP not being used - since it has been released just this year it has been in 3 games, with a 4th soon...... and how many other 3DS games have been released? hell, I think CPP games are the only games I've purchased this year. *edit* only other game I bought so far was Mario Tennis Open the other week
I remember talking to a Nintendo rep at work during the holiday season and she tried telling me that there wouldn't even be a second model. It took every bit of willpower in me not to laugh at her.

Actually, it's quite the opposite.
You can play original DS games in 1:1 mode on the 3DS, and this eliminates the blur caused by the resolution upscaling in fullscreen mode. The problem is, this puts a border around the screen, which shrinks the viewable area to a very small size. But, on the 3DS XL's larger screens, if you use 1:1 mode, the viewable area is actually a tiny bit BIGGER than the normal DSi's screen.
tl;dr - playing an original DS game on a 3DS XL will look almost exactly the same as playing it on a DSi.

Best news ever. The two reasons I skipped out on the original model were the battery life and DS games looking crappy. so it looks like this could be a day 1 purchase for me.
