It was a great bit of misdirection though - we felt that we had "seen" her at this point, and didn't assume that she would turn out to be something totally f***ing weird. At least, I didn't.

It had always bothered me that Calliope seemed like a troll but didn't seem to quite fit with the rest of the trolls, like there was just no way that she could be one because it messed with the symmetry and there was no way that other trolls could exist. So this answer satisfies that at least.

I'm pretty sure those are just her leggings.

and on a whim i dipped into the forums and found someone taking about an interesting connection between uu/UU and Ses hat and Thoth from egyptian mythology.

"First we have Ses hat. Of note from her wiki page:

She is frequently shown dressed in a cheetah or leopard hide, a symbol of funerary priests. If not shown with the hide over a dress, the pattern of the dress is that of the spotted feline. The pattern on the natural hide was thought to represent the stars, being a symbol of eternity, and to be associated with the night sky.

Ses hat assisted the pharaoh in the "stretching the cord" ritual. This ritual is related to laying out the foundations of temples and other important structures in order to determine and assure the sacred alignments and the precision of the dimensions. Her skills were necessary for surveying the land after the annual floods to reestablish boundary lines. The priestess who officiated at these functions in her name also oversaw the staff of others who performed similar duties and were trained in mathematics and the related store of knowledge.

After the pairing with Thoth the emblem of Ses hat was shown surmounted by a crescent moon, which, over time, degenerated into being shown as two horns arranged to form a crescent shape, but pointing downward (in an atypical fashion for Egyptian art). Her male counterpart is Thoth.

This site suggests that Thoth and Ses hat were just aspects of each other, and that as Thoth grew more important he absorbed her roles and priesthood (no temples dedicated to her have been found, though evidence of her having priests does exist).

Also amusing- They had a child named Hornub, which is interesting considering the occasional hint of links to the sufferer. "

Okay, wow. Just read the update.

I did not expect the most shocking reveal of the comic. It's amazing how well this works. This completely turns the comic on its head and brings so much tto light it's incredible that it did this while still being surprising. And the thing is, it was staring us in the face the whole time. SO MUCH hints towards this, but nobody got it. I knew there was going to be a connection from the start (the lime themes, the British speech, even the strange connection in the names to Bec) but this didn't even occur.

Earlier, we saw a panel where Calliope(?)'s ankles were chained - one with Calliope's Caduceus symbol, and one with uu's Ophiuchus symbol.

Now we see Calliope's shackle unlocked but uu's is still locked.

I think the "same body" theory is looking to be more and more a sure bet, though the exact mechanics of it are still a mystery (how do dream selves work, etc).

I'll bet that both Calliope and uu each put a shackle around their body that only they can unlock, as a precaution, to keep them in place.
