Everything on the list is something that can be ordered as main dish, basically. French fries are a side.

They've got freaking salad as an option, fries are far more of a fast food than that'll ever be side or otherwise.

...But you can order big salads at places like McDonald's/etc. and have it be a whole meal. You never order JUST fries as a meal. You get a hamburger and fries. A hot dog and fries. Etc. etc.

This mainly. I get a chicken sandwich if I haven't eaten anything prior to lunch. I almost always get fries though. Just wouldn't feel right otherwise.

Yes, I've ordered JUST FRIES as like, a full meal.

To be fair, though, it was at this portugese chicken place where I wasn't really nuts about the way they prepared their chicken, but their fries and wedges are the best thing I've ever tasted. Last time I ate there, I had a large order of fries and a large order of wedges. I don't regret it. It was delicious.

There's also cheese fries, which are pretty substantial. And poutine, I guess. I've been to Canada, just eating poutine is fairly normal, but I can't stand the stuff.

I'm genuinely surprised that no ultra-rich Quebecois have ever thought of creating some "New York Fries" type of franchise to sell Poutine in the US.

...and now a quick Wiki check has alerted me that "New York Fries" is actually Canadian and doesn't even exist in New York anymore. I always figured you guys had it, but just didn't have Poutines or something.

Yeah, poutine basically does not exist in US, it is entirely a Canadian food. Like it was said, we put stuff on fries, and we put gravy on stuff, but we don't put gravy on fries - it's just not a thing. I have never seen poutine offered in any fast food restaurant, ever - not as a normal item anyway, I'm sure if you wanted KFC to pour some gravy on your fries they could manage. But no, poutine is everywhere in Canada and nowhere in the US.

Personally it's just not my thing. I'm not really big on gravy, and I think it makes fries too soggy when I like my fries crispy.

Dairy Queen gives a little cup of gravy with the chicken strip basket, which contains fries, but that's as close as it gets.

Actually, speaking of experience, just about every chain that doesn't serve poutine in the US, does in Canada (if they exist in both countries). Since all chain restaurants are locally franchised, there are sometimes local differences - there isn't one single menu standard for every McDonald's, for instance (I went to Maui once and the one there was really weird). So it's a matter of the DQs in Canada knowing what poutine is but the ones here don't care, because poutine just isn't popular anywhere in the US.

That's the main reason I find it weird. Almost any place that sells gravy will make you a Poutine in Canada. DQ, KFC, Burger King, etc. It just seems so easy, and I can't see Americans not liking the stuff. I understand how there are certain franchises that never cross the border, but fries and gravy not being a thing over there just seems odd. I'm gonna have to assume it's just because it's French.

Honestly, I don't get it either. You'd think fries + gravy would be so american. Eating excessive amounts of gravy is a very american ideal. Why we won't put it on our fries, I don't know.

There are many restaurants in other country that have poutines but they don't use cheese crumbs.

Poutine with cheese not in crumbs is blasphemy.

Nice people, awesome WipeOut contestants, French speaking people because French sounds really sexy, poutine, moose, the fact that they have the cooler side for Niagara falls, easier to get a visa to go there..... Mexico might've a richer history and culture and food, but the drug cartels actually caused the Malaysian immigration to basically talk everyone out of going there, especially since they're now using South East Asian seas and airports as smuggling routes

Canada's chill

Also Quebec City is quickly become THE place to be for music shows, new mayor is ballin' as ****, also we got the best alcohol (delicious ice cider) and our women are incredibly sexy.

Also we got the biggest winter carnival ever, and the biggest comedy festival ever, every year.

A lot of people here (Belgium) eat fries regularly every week (or 2 weeks) as a full meal. Of course, there's often a piece of meat or two on our plate (hamburgers, nuggets, a lot of other types), but fries are the main course.

Absolutely delicious!
