After keenly observing that there were 64 tracks on the Chrono Trigger OST, which is of course the magic number, it seemed only appropriate to do a tournament of the songs from the game. Typical tournament rules. Everything should be rather self-explanatory. Matches last 24 hours or until I am available to tend to them, whichever is greater.
Past results: A. Undersea Palace wipes the floor with Singing Mountain, 13-4 B. Lucca's Theme hangs on against Dome 18 Ruins, 10-7 C. Silent Light can't quite hang on against The Hidden Truth, 9-8. D. Secret of the Forest runs the table, 17-0. Good night!
"Mystery of the Past" may be the best seven-second 'song' in a video game but there's no competing with the best character theme in one of the strongest soundtracks out there. Frog's Theme is every bit the Medieval Romantic gig actual medieval folk only wish they could replace their stale old Gregorian chant with.
Tyran Castle
Clocks are symbolic, yeah. But no. This is Uematsu's greatest addition to the OST, starting out with a bit of German Expressionism before delving into the best 65 BC groove the game has to offer and sprinkling in a bit of FFV and inspiration for FFIX along the way. What a kick in the yes.
Chrono Trigger ~ Main Theme
Lots of courage here tempered by an almost jazz-like rhythm. Later it develops into something really nicely heartfelt and a melody that justifiably spans two games. Just super-cool all around. Balloons that sound like paintball guns ain't got nothin'.
The Day The World Revived
I'm pretty sure "Gato's Song" is going to wind up beating it up and earning a spot in the second round, but I gotta vote with my heart. As kickin' and iconic as the robot may be, "The Day The World Revived" is beautiful.
1. Frog's Theme 9. A Premonition ~ Title Theme 4. Chrono Trigger ~ Main Theme 5. The Day the World Revived
Morning Sunlight is a 13?! Tyran Castle is half a great song, when it isn't doing that boring-as-hell ascending riff that starts at 0:47.

1. Frog's Theme - Mystery of the past is great, and Frog's Theme is overrated, but that's not enough to overcome the fact that only one of these is a real song.
8. Tyran Castle - I love Tyran Castle. Chrono Trigger has a great title screen, but as a song it's still pretty short and undeveloped, so I don't think this is a difficult choice.
4. Chrono Trigger ~ Main Theme - This one is a more difficult choice, I really like Morning Sunlight. It's peaceful and good. But the intro theme is great.
5. The Day the World Revived - Good song. I like Gato, especially with his lyrics, but his song doesn't really compare.

Frog's Theme - duh Tyran Castle - Premonition is way too short and 10 seconds of it is just a clock ticking. Not good enough. Main Theme - I know I'm alone with this opinion, but Crono's Theme is my favorite character theme in the game, possibly my favorite character theme in any game. I love it so much. Top 5 song on the soundtrack easily. The Day the World revived - I like Gato as much as the next guy, but this song is beautiful.
16. Mystery of the Past .... .... .....just kidding. Frog's Theme 8. Tyran Castle 4. Chrono Trigger ~ Main Theme.... Ultimaphazon is not alone in his opinion! 12. Gato's Song
