For example, when discussing the student paper I was telling my friend we'd only done seven pages out of forty and he was like "seven pages?" and I was like "seven literal pages".

But I don't like it used wrongly, like "literally tearing me apart".

Sadly, one of my workfriends had not heard of Sonic the Hedgehog (...seriously) and I was telling one of my OTHER workfriends this. In my flabbergastedness I said "Sonic the literal Hedgehog", intending for it to be used in the aforementioned, "cool", unnecessary way. However, this is actually incorrect because Sonic is not a literal Hedgehog. This irritated me.
