Eh I think we're talking about different children demographics.
I'm talking like 4-9 year olds. You know, the ones that are significantly below the TV-14 line. I dunno, though, I might be wrong, I don't have extensive exposure to kids these days (though I do have some)-- I'm just saying I don't think that shift starts to happen until they get close to being teenagers-- but that's kinda how I was too.

I don't know. Kids 4-9 love Cena, and he's probably the least gimmicky wrestler ever. But they probably also like Santino, so uh. I think maybe kids 4-9 will like any face.

Right but the point is that even if Cena is non-gimmicked, he's a campy goofball who only gets serious when pushed that far by a heel.
He's far more beloved by that demographic than even "someone rang my doorbell without my permission so I've got my shotgun at the ready" super serious Randy Orton.

Cena's Hulk Hogan with cargo pants. He's plenty gimmicky it's just not as blatant.
I certainly wouldn't call Cena badass anyway. If the kiddies were crazy cheering for Randy Orton on the other hand I might think about it. I'm pretty sure Cena stomps Orton to the kiddie crowd though.
And yes I want the damn eagle back.

I definitely wouldn't call Cena "camp." He makes bad jokes, sure, but I don't think making the occasional bad joke is the other end of the spectrum from Randy Orton; it's a middle ground. A normal personality. I always see kids that young eating up that "hustle, loyalty, respect" thing, so I just assume they like when he gets all tough and stuff.

Hustle loyalty respect is totally say your prayers eat your vitamins as far as the message behind the catchphrase goes. Randy Orton's catchphrases are about inflicting damage on people.

A subtle gimmick isn't gimmicky, though. A gimmicky gimmick is right in your face. All I'm saying is that Cena is probably the closest thing to a normal person among the main event faces, and he's definitely not gimmicky.

Eh. I'm just saying I don't think Cena is normal person. He's too goodie goodie. He's too good at pulling through when his back is against the wall.
He's written realistically at times but that doesn't make the character realistic. I'm not saying he's entirely gimmicky but the part of him that applies to kids is.

Cena is basically Poochie, a horrific amalgam of disparate "cool" gimmicks marketed to children under the misguided logic that says "Kids like pirates and kids like ninjas so they'll double-love a pirate ninja!"
He's just been doing it for so long that it's kinda come out in the wash, faded into the background.

I think there's been a communication error on my part.
I agree that the things about him that appeal to kids (being so goodie goodie and always pulling through) are gimmicks. I'm just saying those things aren't what I'd call gimmicky. Coming out in red spandex to Ernest Miller's theme with two back-up dancers, doing funky dance moves and calling your attacks during the match, that's gimmicky.

I'm just saying I don't consider John Cena evidence that kids dislike gimmicks for that reason. Put John Cena in a Sin Cara suit as a super hero but keep his interviews and stuff the exact same and kids still like him imhhho.

If kids don't love a happy fat man who dances for them and gives soundbytes during his matches then those kids need to be sat in a room and forced to watch the entire series of Animaniacs until they become real human beings.

I find that in general the Chambers being where they are has made the Rumble a little less predictable, since now there's a quick and dirty way to change ANYTHING between the Rumble and Mania.

Well assuming they're bringing Survivor Series style matches back this year, that would fit even less right before Mania.
Elimination Chamber would be more fun any other time of the year, sure, but it's also the easiest way to shuffle the titles and set things up for 'Mania, so it's not a huge loss.

9 Chamber matches have featured a Champion defending his title (3 were for #1 contendership and 1 was for a vacant title). In those 9, the defending Champion is 3-6. Not great odds but still, 33% is better than the true mathematical 17% odds he should have.
Over time though, given more samples, we might actually get closer to that.

Wow, that really is surprising. I always remember it as the time of year you see Rob van Dam, Drew McIntyre, Kodi Kingston and Kane in World title matches.
It just never occured to me that they NEVER win.

Jericho has the most Elimination Chamber losses with 5, but as far as people that are winless in multiple appearances in the Chamber go:
0-4 Randy Orton Kane
0-3 The Big Show Rey Mysterio CM Punk
0-2 Rob Van Dam Batista Jeff Hardy Sheamus R-Truth John Morrison
As far as other winners go, Shawn Michaels has 3 Chamber losses, while Undertaker, Edge, and Triple H have 2. Cena has only lost once in four Chamber appearances, and Lashley may go down in history as the only undefeated Elimination Chamber competitor.

It's kind of a longshot, but I would not be surprised if Cena wins the chamber this year and carries the championship into his match with The Rock. It'd work for a heel turn in the match, and if they decide not to turn Cena at 'Mania, then the belt being on him will be the least of their worries anyway.
