Brandt's movies are funny.

Titus is one of the best sitcoms of all time. I just finished rewatching the series for like the tenth time. The funniest episodes are "hard ass" (well at least the intro) and an episode i can't remember from the second season (the one where Titus gives his dad that white truck with the blue flames on it, when Ken says, "I might as well be a black guy driving a powdered donut")

Louis CK is probably the best comic working now, just in sheer breadth and amount of work that he puts out, all equally amazingly funny, but my favorite is probably Patton Oswalt. I'm a sucker for pop culture jokes.

Tosh, Hedburg, Burham, Doug Stanhope, Mike Birbiglia (special props to him because Sleepwalk with Me is one of the more emotionally affecting one-man-shows I've heard), Jeselnik, Brian Posehn, Galifianakis, all on my playlists as well. There are very few comedians that I can't extract a little enjoyment from, I can watch Dane Cook or the Blue Collar guys and find them funny, but the two comedians who I watch and just think "Why do people give these guys money?" are Jeff Dunham and Carlos Mencia.

Special shout-out to Marc Maron who released what might be my favorite all time stand-up album last year, go listen to This Has To Be Funny if you have some time to spare.

And of course Carlin, who was a poet. Him and Pryor are the two pillars of classic stand-up.

Also, whoever it was that said Leary has better delivery than Hicks can suck it, Bill Hicks was a genius. Not always the most funny guy (he makes jokes about that in a bunch of his acts), but that man could talk in front of a crowd like few can.

Russell Brandt was great in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and his hour-special was okay. I'll need to see more of him.

Christopher Titus has such a great voice for his dark absurd style; I've loved all of his specials I've seen, so his show will be something to watch in the future too.

Mike Birbiglia's a fun story-teller with casual appeal to boot. "What I Should Have Said Was Nothing" is a special worth watching, especially before Bush-jokes become past their prime (even further past, anyway). I'll need to see "Sleepwalk With Me" sometime.

Brian Posehn was best on the Sarah Silverman Program. The one Roast he was in (his only one -- maybe Bob Saget's?) where he joked about replacing Lisa Lampanelli was a good appearance too.

Jeff Dunham's weird to me; I didn't care for him at first, then he grew on me, and NOW it's back to borderline-apathy. Walter and Achmed are probably my favorite puppets, but Dunham can actually be good without them when he opens a show too. It brings me joy to talk about how bad his show on Comedy Central was though; his series-opener broke CC-records with a 7.9-premiere, yet by the end of its only season it was getting ratings as low as 1.3. Stick to stand-up!

Speaking of sticking to stand-up, Carlos Mencia wouldn't be nearly as bad if it wasn't for Mind of Mencia. Many of his specials are good, including his Comedy Central Presents-episode before he really blew up...but his show, goddamn. His show was a vehicle for three things each episode: slam Bush predictably, sing songs terribly, and yell "Dee dee dee" often. It was good to see him return to stand-up recently though, even if it was one of his weaker specials.

Marc Maron is somebody I'll give another chance, but -- like Bill Mahr -- I don't care for his angle of political humor so much. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have done such a great job claiming that corner of comedy, and even then I'll take familiar correspondents from the Daily Show like Lewis Black/John Oliver/Wyatt Cenac/Rob Riggle over Maron/Mahr. Hopefully "This Has To Be Funny" turns me around on Maron.

Kathy Griffon's hard to beat on jokes of gossip and fame. She did a good job hosting the Roast of Joan Rivers, too.

George Lopez's sitcom was decent, but I don't care for his specials and dislike his talk show.

Joe Rogan tries to be a loud comedian too often, but he can get laughs and has interesting points. I still know him best for Fear Factor, which isn't exactly comedy...but I won't hold it again him!

I couldn't get into Bill Burrs much, though there are some specials of his I haven't seen yet too. I'll keep giving him a chance, I guess. He was funny as an announcer on Chappelle Show, at least.

Dave Attell's one of the best dirty-comedians today, mostly because of how he ridicules himself along the way. He was a favorite of mine growing up because his one-liners hit fast.

Don't know Ray William Johnson or Michael McIntyre.

I'll also mention two people I enjoy and sometimes hear labeled "comedian's comedians," whatever that means: Norm MacDonald and especially Paul F. Tompkins. Maybe the term means they're for people who only watch a lot of stand-up, though Norm was great on Weekend Updates whether you knew the art well or not. Maybe they riff on their formulas for jokes along the way...I don't know. Norm's recent sports-show was pretty funny and used a joke I had previously put in my play ONLINE FIGHTING ("What the H?"), so it gets bonus points! He was also so bad on Bob Saget's Roast, he was somehow good for being bad. The Pod F. Tomcast-series is something I've unfortunately procrastinated on catching for a long time, so maybe that'll change soon.

Don't know Mark Watson, Russel Howard, or Anders Mattheson.

After thinking about Joe Rogan some more, a lot of people like him for his drug-based humor...but if you go that route, Doug Benson's arguably the man to beat. He's clever and doesn't seem to have a real chip on his shoulder about life like many comedians do. "Doug Loves Movies" is supposed to be wonderful for movie-fans too, though I can't say from personal experience with it. "The Benson Interruption" was a refreshing take on stand-up comedy, too.

Demetri Martin is a talented artist and comedian; he reminds me of a sober Mitch Hedberg with his delivery. The first season of Important Things was hit or miss, but the second season learned from its past mistakes. If it had always been that good, the show likely would have had more seasons.

Maron's newest album is really not political, it's much more personal. There's the occasional shot at the Iraq war or whatever, and there's a big long bit about the Creation Museum, but it's still all through the "I'm butt**** crazy" lens.
